SOLD

I know I might regret this, but I’m selling my beautiful Fender Jazz Bass, 70’s reissue, MIJ, and it comes with a gigbag.

It’s been setup well and the neck feels comfortable. It has maple neck and fingerboard, with white binding, 20 frets, and pearl block inlays. It has a 3-bolt neck. The body looks like swamp ash (I’m open for corrections), with a black 3-ply pickguard. The bridge has been upgraded to a Gotoh high mass bass bridge.

The strap and the strap locks in the photos are not included (sorry).

It weighs 4.25 Kg (9.3 lbs), and is based in Stevenage. Until my schedule is more favourable, it’s for collection only.

I’m looking at £720 including the gigbag. Please do send me a message for any question. Thank you.

Sadly...

"A" serial date this bass around 1985, just after JV and SQ serials and this is one of the best MIJ period. I have an "А" telecaster and never heard better one, compared with vintages, custom shop, etc...

I've got an "A" mij jazz bass, in the same vein as this. Much searching through Talkbass and bajistas.org (Spain) led me to understand that these were constructed in 1985. There's a story floating around that many might not have been finally assembled until a few years later while operations in Japan shifted from one factory to another.  These basses absolutely sing.

@StuartB, I understand the concern, especially if that website does not show the result of your query. Like the comments above, there are internet sources, including Talkbass and the Fender support website that cover this — based on the serial number, it’s a 1985-1986 Japanese Fender.

Here’s from Fender:

Just to add, here’s a back story… I bought this same bass twice. Yes, I sold it and bought it back. I sold this to person A years ago… person A sold it to person B… and when person B had it for sale, I bought it back. I never doubted its authenticity and it definitely sounds great. I don’t mind keeping it, but I just can’t contain my GAS.

Just to confirm what Mot said. I had one of these and the serial number indicated it was a late 80s  but the neck stamp said 1997. After investigation I found out that it was indeed the case that a number of necks and bodies created in the late 80s were stored and put together years later. Suppose you have the advantage of the wood being more aged and shaped during their prime era, yet fundamentally a newer less used bass, if that makes sense. Mine was great and regret selling it.

It's ok - thanks for the explanation!
