For Sale: Hohner The Jack Bass (passive)
£720

Recommended Posts

* UPDATED- black one now sold. Just the Passive one left*

Well, I've got three of these beauties and having recently acquired another headless bass, I need to save up for a mullet and a jacket with rolled up sleeves. As a result, I'm putting 2 of my Hohner Jacks up for sale.

Then the first one is a 1987 walnut coloured passive Jack weighing it at 7lbs 7oz. It's got a few chips and dings but it has been gigged regularly but not abused. The neck is nice and straight and it has a stupidly low action which could do with raising a bit due to the warmer weather. The frets are in decent nick too. I've also fitted one of the string adaptors which means it can be strung with regular strings as well as double ball ends. It's held in place by string tension so it can be removed effortlessly.

It has an intermittent issue with the barrel Jack socket that seems to happen on all these old Hohners and very occasionally cuts out briefly. It's an easy fix apparently but I've never got round to it and it's never played up when I've gigged it.

*SOLD* The second is a 1988 active/passive model in the rarer black finish and weighing 7lbs 12oz. It's in really good condition for its age with minimal wear and tear. Again it's fitted with the string adaptor and again the neck is great with a low action.

The active/passive circuit works fine which is unusual for one of these as they're normally dead as dodos. It even has the lesser-spotted battery cover that is usually missing.

Again, it has an intermittent issue with the barrel Jack socket and again it sometimes cuts out briefly. It's an easy fix but I've not bothered with it as it doesn't happen regularly. It's worth me thing though.

This one comes with a hard case. I'm not sure if it's original to the bass but it fits perfectly. *SOLD*

Im looking for £300 for the  brown passive one and £380 for the black active one. Postage is included.

I'll be sad to see them go but I have another one to help me get by.

That black one is

“shuper shexshee mish moneypenny “

Did a couple of residencies at butlins with one of these in the late 80’s. Chose it over my USA fender at the time.

Terrific basses, light, and can fit in a Golf GTI boot. GLWTS Nick.

Lovely stuff OH. No mullet to offer but if you'd consider trading for a couple of pink Armani knock-offs with rollable sleeves PM me ASAP. Otherwise GLWTS 👍🏻

PM'd!

On second thoughts the pink would clash with my bloodshot eyes. Such a shame...

You're in luck! I got the unlikely Armanis from HL himself and there were two rolled up in the sleeves 👍🏻. Also copped the flux capacitor from him, which is maybe why both harps claim to be made by Fodera, dated 2035. The rest of the stamps appeared to be in an oriental font but they're definitely genuine.

How much for the hover board?

I've heavily customised the hover board by adding wheels to it and taking away the hover functionality. It's got a Badass bridge on it too, so it must be worth more than it originally cost me due to the improvements. I don't know, £6,000?

Showing my age here but if those wheels are Red Kryps on Gullwing trucks, as soon as I get the flux capacitor working I'll take it. Straight back to 1978 🤔

The basses are lovely by the way. Ain't nostalgia grand?

They sure are 😍 When I was out gigging in the late 80's, there were two other bands out gigging from the same area, one bassist had a Jack bass and the other bassist had the headless Washburn Status bass. Loved them both.

What about a trade for a re-issue Michael J Fox Back To The Future Gilet.... short scale obviously 😁

Incidentally I thought I saw Michael J Fox in my local garden centre last week. Turns out it wasn’t him but it was difficult to tell initially as the bloke had his back to the fuchsias

That fret wear looks significant on the black bass zero fret - can you show me a close - up? 😃

Here you go. It looks a lot worse in the first pics. I think it's where they're tarnished. These photos show it a lot better and for a 34 year old zero fret I'd say it looks in pretty good nick overall.
