First up is my newly acquired [b]Pub Bass[/b] >> [attachment=19317:pubBass_01.jpg] [attachment=19318:pubBass_02.jpg] [attachment=19319:pubBass_03.jpg] [attachment=19320:pubBass_04.jpg] 33" Scale Downsized J Bass shape, Slab Finished Black Walnut body with Black Wet Look Gloss finish and matching headstock (a bugger to keep clean and shiny ) 5 piece Mahogany/Wenge neck with graphite rods, 22 frets and Rosewood Fingerboard EMG JV pickups and electronics with vol /vol /tone control layout This bass makes some fantastic dark and thick vintage tones and even a fairly convincing Jaco impersonation, although my playing isn't really up to it... Next up is my [b]6 String Single-Cut Bolt-On[/b] >> [attachment=19321:singleCut_01.jpg] [attachment=19322:singleCut_02.jpg] [attachment=19323:singleCut_03.jpg] [attachment=19324:singleCut_04.jpg] 33" Scale tuned B to C Single-Cut, Slab Finished White Ash Body with an Amboyna Drop Top and matching headstock and Satin Laquer 5 piece Maple/Wenge neck with graphite rods, 24 frets and Santos Rosewood Fingerboard Dual EMG DC pickups with Shuker designed 3 band EQ with internal mid freq control and gain This bass has a real hi-fi thing going on with a fantastic range of tones available thanks to the EMGs and the Shuker 3 band EQ. Simply by the laws of physics, things will be a little looser, however, I'm currently using some very nice SIT Nickels which are that little bit tighter which helps to compensate. The slightly shorter scale also makes the bass a lot more playable especially if you've got small hands like myself. The EMG JV's get a very good traditional bass tone without any hum or unwanted noise. The bridge pickup doesn't quite get to a glass breaking honk, but it's pretty close. The neck pickup is thick, dark and bassy. My only criticism is that the tone knob doesn't do a whole lot, [b]SteveSoar [/b] did warn me of that, so I might swap that out for something else. Nice to have compliments from a fellow stealth bass player too I wouldn't worry all that much about playing a 6er to be honest, it's easier than you'd think. If you've ever played a little bit of any other instrument and been able to translate that into your bass playing, you're a step ahead already, bar a bit of muscle memory training, you should give it a go, you might surprise yourself... I wasn't just talking about looks as it happens .... fretless and unlined is my kind of bass, and LaBella black tapes have just become my favourite kind of string. eude Posted March 24, 2009 Author Share Posted March 24, 2009 The Pub Bass will be getting an ACG preamp next month, which I'm very excited about The standard vol/vol/tone that came with the EMG set just isn't cutting it, struggling to get anything close to "my sound" and I don't like to rely on my amp for tone. What aspects of the bass are unique to you / your request I received my Shuker JJ Burnel signature bass 3 weeks ago, 8 months wait but worth the wait, it's all powerful!, a growler, the finish is perfect. The only special request I had was making my daughters birth date the serial number. Jon Shuker is a master craftsman, a topper of a guy too. Jon Shuker is a master craftsman, a topper of a guy too.[/quote] Hey man, the bass took about 10 months, quite a bit longer than Jon originally quoted, however, in the grand scheme of things, not that long compared to other builders, certainly luthiers from overseas... There's quite a lot about the pub bass that is unique to me. The Scale length is 33", the body has a slab finish, i.e. less contours like an old school P Bass, the woods involved are a bit unusual for a Jazz Style Bass too, American Black Walnut for the body with a 5 piece Mahogany/Wenge neck, as I wanted to have something that would contrast nicely with the bright aggressive tone of six string. The electronics and pickups where to also help with the contrast, but as I mentioned before, the vol/vol/tone setup that came with the EMGs just doesn't do enough for me, so it's getting an ACG preamp Not entirely sure if either of mine have a serial number, where is yours?... You'll need to post some pics of your bass on here dude, I'm sure there's a load of people who'd like to see it! I see you're from Aberdeen, do you reckon you'll be abe to make the [url="http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=40267"]Scotland/North of England Bass Bash[/url] in Moffat?
