Hi all, newby here. I'm after a five string bass, lefty, lower range of the price bracket please!

Anything about? Or any recommendations for models I should be looking at?

Please send a Pm if you have anything, and use a large font size - I'm a drummer...

Cheers, ears.

Hi stoko, what's your pricerange? After a quick Google your best 'cheap' options seems to be a peavey millennium or a warwick rockbass. If you can stretch a bit further though, you could get a 5 string gl l2000 tribute which is one hell of a bass !

Hi man, what do you mean by lower price bracket? It would be easier to give some suggestions that way. I would also highly recommend buying second hand due to the facts that you get more from your money plus you can generally sell it for what you bought it for if it turns out you don't like it- you just need to know what you're looking for. If you give us a figure I'm sure we could throw a few suggestions your way.

Here's a Shine 5 string on ebay, they're pretty decent for the money- link
Cheers all. I'm looking at spending £2-300 ideally, I don't play much so can't justify spending more unless there's a super bargain doing the rounds?
That's a pretty decent amount to be fair, you should get a good bass for that.

Maybe this Yamaha LINK?

Anyone else want to weigh in?

Well to be honest from what I hear Shine basses are perfectly decent. And at £80 you're not really risking mch if you turn out to not like it. It obviously won't be the best bass though :)

Yamahas are good basses, although that is towards to lower end of their ranges. If it's brand new then that's probably a decent price for it. I've played the 4 string version of it and it was pretty punchy. Depends what kind of sound you're going for I guess!

I used to play with a band called March- not too big but played the Ship a few times and Mad Ferret etc. Practiced in The Mill on Aqueduct Street. Good fun but I left in December because of my uni commitments. What about yourself?

Played drums in god knows how many sh1t punk bands over the years, currently playing bass for baboon and evil blizzard at the ferret every now and then, hence needing to get some half decent gear!
Remember the name march, heavy stuff IIRC?

Yup that's the one :) Just spotted this, might be a good deal if you can get it within your budget. Depends what reserve he has on it I guess. Spectors are really good basses.

Hi there,

I want to sell my Maruszcyzk Elwood 4 string bass.
I bought it a couple of months ago, brand new, and has never left home. No gigs, nothing.

I bought it after selling my one and only 5 string and buying a couple of another 4 strings so now I feel like I want a 5 string again.

I am asking 800€ with the upgraded EMG active pups or 650€ if you prefer the stock passive ones.
The bass is in Spain and for shipping costs I would only charge (if shipped to the UK) the difference between shipping to the EU and to the UK.

Thanks

 • 2 weeks later...

My Dad bought me this in slightly misguided excitment at finding one of those big guitars I like:

No so much good to me. £70 posted? I'll set it up and such, it is pretty much new. Might find a strap and some bits for it if it is going to a beginner.

Hi All,
Tough decision this but I'm currently reviewing everything bass related and have decided to put my Clover 5 into the market place at £900.00.
It's a mid 90's 36" scale neck-thru graphite headless.
Pickups and preamp are Bartolini.
The neck was produced by SKC of Germany. They provided necks for all the Clover, Schack and Bogart basses. Not as chunky as the Status 5's. Shallow and fast.
Most normal long scale strings can be used as the strings are held in place by individual screws at the nut (See my avatar).
The bass plays well with no issues. I used it this past weekend on 2 functions. Covered all styles very well from Kings of Leon to Sinatra. As the bridge name suggests it is also a slap monster. I had an email exchange with Kai Eckhardt sometime ago as he has the same bass, electrics etc apart from the finish. Check out his You Tube clips playing the Clover.
Cosmetically there is wear to the finish/gloss and some hairline cracks to the gloss on body but as you can see by the picture these are not so obvious.
Have been speaking to a couple of bass friends in Germany and lefty 5 versions of these are very rare so the price reflects this.
Would prefer any potential buyer to come and try and will forward more pictures on request although may not be able to do till the coming weekend as not around much till then.
Thanks for looking.

Not a lefty myself, but as a vintage collector/player, thought someone may find this interesting.

Not often you see pre-70 Lefty Fender Basses, especially a slab board '60.

Very, very nice, i know its had a refin, but it looks superb..very cool.
