Wow that Spector is really nice looking. I am very very tempted. But £850 is a bit too much on the Cash to GAS ratio.....

Hopefully will see one at the bass show this weekend. Spector will have a stand.

I'm sure they will be showing this one or the 5 string version.

Was going to place a thread to sell my LH Nordy - shocked by the members having to subscribe feature - didn't see that coming.

Just questioning if we southpaws should be offered some kind of discount when posting in the 'basses for sale' section, as the vast majority of ads in the basses for sale are of no use or interest ?!!

If they expect people to pay now to sell gear on here everyone will use ebay instead as has a larger online presence.
Fair enough to ask for donations but the site should be completely free. Im sure there is plenty opportunity for page advertising from all sorts of music suppliers etc.

Well, we'll see. Initial indications show that people would rather sell to a specialist audience in a friendly and mutually beneficial atmosphere such as BC rather than via eBay with it's much higher pricing and lack of 'community'

I agree.

I'm just wary of paying full price to offer a minority piece to an even smaller minority.

Well, you could argue that every piece of kit is only attractive to a small audience - with the differences between any two basses becoming greater and greater, selling in a supportive and knowledgeable community like BC has never been more important.

Left handed players have less options, so you may well find a buyer more quickly.

At the end of the day, we like to think (along with you, I hope) that BC is more than just a place to sell gear, and the payment does more than let you access the marketplace; it keeps the site running and improving, weather you sell stuff here or not.

Cheers

Fair enough, my fault for not paying attention or getting involved in any earlier discussions regarding the subscriptions. Good luck with the changes.

Yeah, but - do you think it's kind of uncool to list it here to get around paying to advertise it on the site? I mean, I guess we should have closed this thread to avoid people doing that, but still.

I dont see any 'community' spirit in s psy to display website. Revenue can easily be gotten from willing advertisers. No need to introduce charges for enthusiasts. Next they will be charging per year just to be a member.

Im sure rhis direction will simply have members looking elsewhere and finding other bass forums or starting their own if they have the know-how.

Don't get me wrong, and I'm not against contributing (which I have previously) and I understand the logistics of maintaing such a forum, but isn't this a vicious circle as we are the content ?

As I mentioned earlier, I'm slightly gutted that I wasn't aware of any changes due and would have maybe contributed an opinion.

Well we gave as much notice as we could, and it's working well so far. I guess we'll see. In the meantime please don't sell stuff in this thread as it's a clear breach of the new T&Cs.

Thanks

I think it's important to understand that for many years now we have paid out of our own pockets to bring this awesome forum to everyone and I've worked very hard to ensure it's a nice place to hang out.

A small contribution for using the marketplace isn't much to ask - you'd have to pay to sell on eBay anyway AND you'd get no guarantee of a nice smooth transaction with a cool community member if you went to eBay.

We want to make this forum the best it can be - sadly, money for expensive hosting doesn't grow on trees.

Closing this thread would be kind of sad, the lefty community here is but small and this thread makes it a lot easier for our fellow lefty forumites to find eachother, and to find cool lefty instruments both on and outside this forum. But I suppose we could make it a thread with links to our paid ads, instead of selling in this thread and getting around paying?

Absolutely fine - were not trying to cause any problems, quite the opposite - just see how we improve the service to you guys over the next year with a little money coming in.

Thanks guys and peace

Maybe add Left-Hand in the tag criteria of the advert, which would makes left-hand kit easier to find? Just a quick thought? You could then save the search link on a browser task bar for easy access. :) I've saved the 'new posts' link in the same way.

Please put up a homepage declaration about why you are now going to charge for marketplace ads and why you cannot just increase in-page advertising and increase rates to advertisers. This site is going to become as greedy as ebay. Yes, many are drawn to the site to look at or utilise the marketplace but thats no reason to raise money at the members' expense.

Just my opinion. I'll be using leftybass.com from now on.
