That's a bit dismissive and very debatable dependent on individual taste 🤔 I think it's a bit more than that as well - she designed the guitar with them so it's a true signature instrument - designed by a woman - also quite an iconic act. They've done pretty cool versions of it as well. It's quite high profile as well, surprised you'd not heard of it.

St. Vincent is great - she's won loads of awards too.

I was waiting for that. I wouldn't remotely know where to start. I'd be happy to make initial suggestionsto experts,  and test prototypes; then again, they'd have to be lefties, wouldn't they? More hornets being stirred as we speak... 😮

You should try a Hohner/Steinberger/Westone cricket bat out. Lightweight and should fit nicely under the frontal area under discussion.

Is it possible that Tal's, er, deployment is actually intentional? I suppose that's the sort of question that is never asked at an interview (and I'm not sure that it ever should be). After all, as you say, it isn't as if she couldn't afford a bass that would be more female-friendly.

Argh, the cricket bats sound and look horrid. As far as I'm concerned they're best left in the 1980s. :o

One way around the 'boobs getting in the way' problem is, of course, to either strap your bass so it sits round your knees (very punk!), or really high up (as Tal's does in that photo), so it simply leans against your chest rather than prodding it with its horn. My preference is a happy medium, which I find comfortable to my wrists, elbows and fingers, and I'm not going to change it for the sake of playing a bass that happens to be the wrong shape. I have a Warwick Fortress which I love, but I tend to play it mostly while sitting down - because its horn is long enough to interfere when I'm standing... 9_9

Or, as I do, play with a high neck angle, so the top horn sits comfortably between your boobs (see pic above, middle of page 2). The long slim top horn on the GMR is ideal, but it works fine with a Jazz too. I've only ever had a problem with my single cut, and it's too heavy for me to play standing up anyway 😞
