Bridgehouse Posted September 4, 2018 Posted September 4, 2018 So, Shuker fretless upgraded - I now have a super quiet Preamp for the mag pickup which is under the fretboard. It balances well with the piezo and sounds fabulous either on its own or blended. Thereās plenty of headroom at 18v and itās a good mix.Ā Ā Now, the Delano Preamp has an extra feature I didnāt completely expect - active/passive switching. Thereās no doubt about it, in passive mode it is a different sound - quite different, so the Preamp is clearly colouring the sound of the Nordstrand. (Not in a bad way mind) Ā Out of interest, I think I may like to use the passive tone, but as itās under the board itās some distance from the strings, so itās very quiet output wise. Ā I doubt Iād use it live, but I might do in the studio. Can you recommend a clean, transparent, low SNR boost for it? Quote
Jack Posted September 4, 2018 Posted September 4, 2018 The MXR Micro Amp is the standard. Personally I always used my trusty old GEB-7, leave the eq flat and just use the volume. But that's just because I already had one. 1 Quote

I suspect the MXR micro amp is pretty quiet - but not tried either so I donāt know Quote
Chiliwailer Posted September 4, 2018 Posted September 4, 2018 I like the MXR Custom Shop version of the Micro Amp, great EQ if you need it.Ā Not perfectly transparent, but the little it adds to the tone is very nice to my ear.Ā 1 Quote
Chiliwailer Posted September 4, 2018 Posted September 4, 2018 Boss can be real tone suckersĀ ā¹ļø Quote

I think if you put studio headphones on, sit in an anechoic chamber and A/B something you'll nearly always find a fault. I'm a firm believer that if I don't notice something in it's natural environment then it doesn't matter. So on that basis I'd say it has an infinitely low noise floor and is the quietest and best pedal on tthe planet... š Ā Ā Ooooh, I forgot about it, but I loved my Xotic RC Boost. That one really was quiet and unobtrusive. 1 1 Quote

Johnny Wishbone Posted September 4, 2018 Posted September 4, 2018 I used to use a TC Spark Mini to boost the output of my Warwick. Tiny footprint, up to 20dB boost and, at the levels I was using it at, quiet as the grave. Dirt cheap as well, IIRC. 1 Quote
dudewheresmybass Posted September 8, 2018 Posted September 8, 2018 The mxr is first choice.Ā I have had great results with the ehx lpb1. There's a slight lift in the mids, but in a really pleasant way.Ā Quote
Painy Posted September 10, 2018 Posted September 10, 2018 Joyo Roll Boost would be my recommendation. Inexpensive, very solidly built, very transparent and up to a frankly ridiculous 32dB boost if you should ever want it. Been gigging mine happily for 4 years now. Quote
Cuzzie Posted September 10, 2018 Posted September 10, 2018 Creation Audio MK4.23 Looks beautiful, brilliant clean boost, completely transparent, one of the best on the market Quote
