His name is Danny and it's Bass Japan Direct.

http://dannymstewart.com/the-bass-hunter/bass-hunter-service  I used him once and found him to be a very efficient guy to deal with.

There are the extra charges to factor in.  Danny charges a very reasonable 'finder's fee' if it isn't one he has 'in stock' at the time.  Then there is VAT and import duty on the declared value, although Danny has a trick for this which, if all goes well, saves quite a bit.   What happens if it goes wrong I am not sure.  Then ParcelForce charge a handling fee.  It is usually still worth doing, financially, and if it is a bass you can't get here so much the better.

Be very, very careful with anything involving rosewood or any other species covered by CITES.

The paperwork is expensive & complicated and unless done fully & correctly, the instrument will be confiscated and destroyed. And you won't get a refund.

One would have thought if it is done through a Broker like Danny, they would be on top of the CITES issue? (Not saying you are wrong to mention CITES anyway)!🙂

You'd hope so. There are separate fees/documentation for export & import, so anyone sourcing from Japan needs to be confident that the seller will sort out their end.

Sounds like a great service. I think that pink Lakland Skyline on his website is currently for sale at Bass Direct. There can't be many of those in the UK...

I'd be very wary of any trick to lower the customs and import duty. The charges for a small item like a bass guitar are, bollocks, and it's a cheek that HMRC thinks they're entitled to compensation for you getting your hands on a nice bass. That said, I would imagine they'll hang you by your knackkas if they catch you in any sort of swindle or creative importation.
