Jean-Luc Pickguard Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 I like coiled cables - I have a fairly cheap one which I've upgraded with better jacks. I only use it at home as it is quite short, and I want to buy a better one for gigs. There are a few alternative coiled cables available including a bullet cable from amazon which looks perfect, but nearly double the cost of an equivalent Vox one. The jacks look better on the bullet. I'd love to hear anyone's experiences of a bullet cable - Are they any good? Are they worth the additional cost over a cheaper one? Are there any other COILED cables with an angled jack at the bass end I should be looking at? I already have enough good quality non-coiled cables in perfect contition, so I'm not not looking for another of those. Quote
ped Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 Gear4music stock Lava Cables, might be worth a look Quote
Jean-Luc Pickguard Posted January 28, 2018 Author Posted January 28, 2018 Are the lava ones better than others then? gear4music only seem to have weird pastel blue or weird pastel green ones in stock at the moment. Quote
LITTLEWING Posted January 28, 2018 Posted January 28, 2018 True, the Fender ones are noisy cheap junk. I've had a VOX curly lead for over a year now and it hasn't lost any of the clear sound quality and is still quiet. Just about to buy another as a gigging spare. Quote
knirirr Posted Friday at 16:20 Posted Friday at 16:20 Apologies for replying to the old thread, but it seemed better than starting a new one for a similar question. I too would like a curly lead with an angled jack at one end. I've got a Vox one but the straight part at the angled end is not quite long enough to pass through between strap and body; one with a slightly longer end would be useful. There don't appear to be Lava cables at Gear4Music any more (perhaps they are no longer made): https://www.gear4music.com/Electric_Guitars/guitar-cable.html?page=1&filters[1548]=10150&filters[1549]=10154 Quote

Woodinblack Posted Friday at 23:00 Posted Friday at 23:00 I have a fender one and it has been good, which is a surprise as every other fender cable I have had has been junk. Maybe it was a lucky accident. Quote

Maybe it was a lucky accident. I have a plain Fender lead. In my cable tester, which detects intermittent faults, it always passes. Put it in a bass and it crackles and pops, though others don't. I can't figure it out. Quote

Measure the diameter of the jack itself as there's absolutely no standard for these supposed to be 1/4 inch size. You'll be amazed by the result as it will certainly be lower than 6.35 mm explaining the pops and crackles... Quote

That's what I suspect, also if groove to base distance is a bit long as well it might rattle in the socket. Quote
