not sure how true it is but useful when the guitarist says you're too loud or you want to be higher in the mix when recording (always)

And Van der Graaf Generator from Pawn Hearts to World Record (at least live. Hugh Banton took over bass duties in the studio after Nic Potter left and played the bass pedals in concerts).

Which leads me to point out that there is bass on Doors records. Played by Ray Manzerak live and in the studio (keyboard bass) and Robby Krieger (bass guitar overdubs) in the studio,
