32" Medium Scale Bass Thread

@crunchman

I picked up a Westone Concord on here a few years back. It had been around the block, but feels lovely to play as it’s just that bit lighter and easier on the fretting fingers! The action is quite high on mine, but that’s fine as I use it for rumbly-punk sounds. Maple board is slick, and the PUPs are nice, load, and boomy.

Thanks.  Seen a few of them relatively cheap on Feebay.

What's the nut width on the Concord?

Yes, I saw that they had added one to their collection. Thanks for posting the video - what a terrible advert 😂

I do like a maple neck, but only really like guitars in black or white, which somehow aren't catered for with this new range!

Just bought one of the new Ibanez Medium scales.  So easy to play after a 34" scale.  It's my first active bass so slightly different to what I'm used to.  There does seem to be a lot of top end, but then it has brand new strings, which probably isn't helping.  Seems ok when I turn the treble down a bit on the amp to compensate.

Edit:  just to add that I did try out a Mustang in the shop for comparison.  The 2" scale difference does mean the strings aren't nearly as flappy as the Mustang.  I think 32" really is the best of both worlds in terms of scale.

Yes, I found that there's barely any difference in tension between 34" and 32". Dropping that extra 2" to 30" is very different though!

Glad you are enjoying the new toy.

Just had a search for medium scale to see if it was a “thing” 😀 some nice stuff in this thread- never even heard of gypsy rose!

I’ve only ever owned a p of some kind and a ric after many years, so decided to keep my eye out for something different. Landed this bad boy off a fellow BCer over Xmas, took it to a jam last week.

Mud-bucker, j bass pickup, medium scale- lots of new things to try!

I love it so far and it’s a lot of fun. I’ll admit I don’t notice the scale change so much (I only play very simple stuff, rarely high up the board) but the tone differences are massive!

Am I allowed to share a recent 33” scale acquisition? @Rumple?

Why not, then I can share my 33" 5'er 🙂

Huzzah!

Recently bought this lovely 33” six string Shuker from @JMT3781. Still getting used to the flattish fingerboard, but I really like the narrow spacing, medium scale, and it looks lovely... if a little on the heavier side than I’m used to. If I keep it I may end up swapping the EMG system out for some Nordstrands.

Are we allowed to share 31.5" basses here, or are they technically too short?
Not really sure where they sit, I always describe them as shot(er) scale...
