Complete bass rig on a budget.

This is what I put together recently for none lottery win money, but it sounds fantastic. Fender Road Worn bass.... £650. Little Mark 2....£225. Epifani PS 112...£150. This gear was all pre owned, and bought using this very site, and sounds as good as some of the other stuff I own which cost a LOT more. As you can see, the whole lot comes to £1025, which are the individual prices you would pay for a new U.S Fender bass, a nice new high end cab, or a new monster power valve amp... Listed above is a sort of standard small to medium gig rig, with no real frills, but delivers a great tone if not driven hard. Add another cab,and the the Markbass can work at full steam at 4 ohms, and suddenly your rig starts to sound massive. So what complete rig have you put together for reasonable cash, that sounds like a big dollars set up.

I'm mostly using a secondhand LM2, a used Schroeder cab and a used Epi Jack Casady bass which all comes to less than a grand.

I used to regularly gig a slightly knackered old SGC Nanyo which cost me about £100 and worked perfectly well - took some pleasure in gigging with such cheap stuff.

Then again i've spent shedloads recently on other music stuff instead, which rather spoils my point.

I'm currently using a TE rig after selling my Mesa Walkabout head.

The money from the sale of the Mesa got me a GP7 7215 300w combo, an AH150 amp, a series 6 GP7 Preamp, a 1x15 cab and a 2x12 cab plus a few quid left over.

Obviously I'm never going to use all the TE gear at the same time but each of the components assures me of a much better sound, lots more ooomph and confidence that it's unlikely to go wrong. I get fantastic tone from all of my basses through this set up, whether its my £5k+ Ritter or my £120 Nanyo.

Where's Bottle when you need him?

His cheap-as-chips Maplins PA rig was the surprise star of the rig shoot-out a little while back ...

Yeah if your not worried about weight there are some extremely cheap options out there e.g. this on ebay.

My current go to set up.
Aria SB Elite I (£60, back in the late 80s. But just cost me a few hundred in new parts) ---> Ashdown JJ-500 (£400, the expensive bit of the rig) ----> Ashdown Mag 810 (free)

I could use my £50 Peavey Standard MkIII head though...
