MacDaddy Posted May 12, 2016 Share Posted May 12, 2016 (edited) ok, I'll do a rational and a bit of history later, but for now here's the spec: 32” scale 24 fret drop d on E string. 38mm nut width 19mm string spacing 19mm neck depth at 1st fret? 21mm at 12th D profile maple / black veneer laminated bolt on neck (5 piece laminate) two way truss rod carbon fibre reinforcement flamed maple fretboard fluorescent side dots face LED's, between E and A, - yellow. zero fret composite nuts 6x recessed neck bolts Shuker ‘series 2” body shape, slightly flared out to dimensions supplied very light swamp ash, body contours, reduced heel for access simpler ramp (than Shuker no. 1) monkey grip polyester basecoat zebra stripe colour coats (B&W), decals lacquered over satin topcoat Passive pickup, custom wound P type. [/quote] I got the idea from the Kubicki's I used to have, but it's been a feature on some double basses from back in history (although they generally were extended to C). No probs for me having to fret the low E. I find it easier this way as the E is still in tune for the rest of the neck, unlike the Hipshot types, where you have to play 2 frets up. I want a matt finish (with a black volume knob on a black strip) . The ramp will be a bit simpler, probably smaller, with the thumb rest part a tad nearer to the strings. Heres a few pics of the body, all routed and carved, drilled etc. I’ve got the rout for the pickup ramp to do, then its spraying time! [/quote] On Shuker 1 the space is where the bendwell is, so not possible there. But I want to keep in standard tuning, I'm not sure I could get my head around 2 extra lower frets on all strings!
