Just listened to just about everything the Jackson 5 did and didnt realise quite how superb the tunes were,Jamerson seems to be all over the early stuff wish i new more about the blokes behind the playing, beautiful harmonies and cute hooks. 2-4-6-8 is my fav apart from the more well known ones.

I think Micheal's young voice is quite astonishing. i hear lots of young fantastic singers on youtube, but none of them touch him. I prefer his voice when he was younger to his voice when his stylised it later. Much more natural. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=270Fr-B4ad0

Its a favorite J5 record. The horns are great.

Technically, when that was recorded they were called "The Jacksons".
Not sure what the reason for the name change was.
As with this track as well.

I've just been learning 'I Want You Back' for a band - never realised there was so much going on in there, it's amazing. About a thousand great ideas in a 3-minute pop song.
Might just be my favourite bass line ever, wonderful contribution to the song and just a pleasure to play.

And then there's Darling Dear...drop dead beauty in the busiest musical bass line ever written.

The 'I Want You Back' bassline, like a lot of great basslines, works all on its own without the rest of the music; it's a tune in itself.

It's a difficult line to nail.

Motown copyrighted the name. Jermaine married Berry Gordys daughter and stayed; the others quit.
