Didn't Alembic produce something in the 90s as an anniversary model with a list around $30k?

Their current price list has something called a "Classico Deluxe" which starts at $34,000 before you've added any options...

I like Ritters but that's pretty awful....

That's lovely apart from the gold icing on the pickups. Although I wouldn't bother with the black diamonds and mammoth tusk, perhaps he'd do one for me without those bits for £100.
Paul McCartney bought the double bass played on the classic Elvis tracks by Bill Black. Given what that bass means to the world, it would have been a serious bit of money.
FWIW it was Linda who bought it as a birthday present for Paul.

The original point was more " look a non jewel encrusted not painted in ambergrist" bass for 18 grand! Not so much how many shinies can you stick in an instrument to make it as expensive as possible and put it in a case for eternity.

The thread title is probably misleading in that sense.

The LED's are this one are quite something as I remember. They are placed rather unconventionally and illuminate randomly. A proper light show under your fingers.

It's utterly ridiculous but I love it...

...a scene from Ritter HQ:

Work Experience Boy: "Excuse me Mr Ritter, what would you like me to do with these weirdly shaped offcuts, these broken Christmas tree lights, these mismatched knobs and this four gallon tin of mega-ultra-supershiny varnish, sir?"
Jens Ritter: "Leave it all on my workbench...I have an idea. Now...was Willy Wonka a real confectioner or did someone make him up...?"

The 25th anniversary was $25000 about 16 years ago, this one: http://www.alembic.com/info/sterling.html
