metallicas orion with cliffs bass turned up

Recommended Posts

Interesting listening - the bass sounds a lot better being slightly hotter in the mix - still allows the guitars and the drums to come through clearly.

Speaking of the drums - they are a lot clearer than the original, and in a couple of places seem to differ considerably in feel and emphasis. I miss the "big" drum sound the album has, but don't miss some of the jerkiness of Lars playing. I would like to hear a mix with the original drum track at the original level in the mix, everything the same but the bass emphasized a little more - would probably sound better to my ears.

Everyone knows the best drum mix, is St. Anger

Well it's certainly the most interesting and most talked about Metallica drum mix...

I read somewhere that Jason used ESP basses on the garage days re-revisited ep.
I think there is a pic of Jason with Cliffs Aria bass on the sleeve though.

It's definitely the Aria. Unmistakeable sound.

Did Jason use a Spector on the black album? Always thought it sounded like a Spector on Enter Sandman.

Black album is mostly Spector, with some Wal I think. Jason played a Warwick 12 string on 'Wherever I May Roam', those great bit 'clannnggg!' sounds. :D

I was looking through my Damaged Justice tour brochure from 88/89.
All Jason is using in photos are a Wal 4 string, and the red and black ESP 5 strings.

I always wanted one of those red ESPs...

Any thoughts on the opening chords to Orion? RT just plays root/5th/octave. I play E root/5th/octave , BDF#B, BEbF#B

I've played the guitar parts through an octave.
