Thank you gentlemen, you're very kind! The padauk Series II is a lovely bass but I must admit to giving it a good polish prior to taking the photographs
Wow! Thats an interesting one - a sort of transition model - early bridge cover (original and still the best!) Status logo and the bigger `headpiece'! And its got an LED active indication light.

Its `Charmin' *

(* subtle reference to those finding themselves polishing!)

Hi guys, again thanks for the comments - LMHO. Funny really, I'm frequently referred to as a bit of a polisher. Nick, thanks - I'd never really thought of the bass as a transition, but you're right. I think that development was fairly rapid around the time that my Status was built - I know that there was incredible pressure on production. Mine followed a fairly large run for the Japanese market I'm told. The features on 251 are very nice - I'm a particular fan of LED indicators and the earlier cover logo

This discussion seems to have cooled off so I am posting a picture of my fretless Status. This is the second Status I have owned, I started with a Shark 5-string, single pickup, natural finish and fretted. It had the same tonal range as a P-Bass but was very nice to play and lead to me eventually buying this classic which has so much tonal range that I have completely given up up on pedals and processors.

Nice S2 you have there, molecule. Your point on the effects pedals is also duly noted. I've been playing S2's for over twenty years & have never found I needed to use any effects with them at all. They have such a clean, hifi, growly sound that it's just not necessary.

I finished five weeks of professional pantomime with my main S2 4-string yesterday. These pics have been up elsewhere, but here's the pit view...

For those of you who didn't see it, Rob's New Year message on Statii and on the Status website. Also, the promise of great things in 2010...

Good Morning All and a Very Happy New Year from all at Status.

I hope your heads are not pounding too much after the celebrations and suggest turning the bass down just for a couple of hours.

We do have a lot of plans for the coming year, starting with building a mezzanine floor in our workshop to give us more space. Anyone who has visited recently will have noticed the 'organised chaos' we are currently working in.

Next year will be our 30th anniversary so watch this space for something a bit special.... and I believe a certain band we all know and love have a similar celebration this year.

We will also be finding time to create a couple of new bass models and some interesting sidelines : all new merchandise, posters, calendars, artwork etc. I also plan to give our web site a big makeover and add more images and a big sound archive.

Please get back to me with your wish-list or any comments.

Big thanks again to Andre and the team for building the Statii forum into the force it is.

A happy and healthy New Year to everyone.

Rob, Dawn and all at Status Graphite.
Wow - I don't know if the serial numbers were seperate for each model at that time [as they are now], but my original Status SII was #402, produced in 1987.

Rich.
Tis a fine 2000! The serial numbers were seperate Rich, so you would have an SII with #402 and a Series 2000 with the same number. I would hazard a guess that the blue 2000 was perhaps made around '88/89, judging by the colour and black h/ware!

Cheers guys!!!

Nick
yes it is !!!!

Hi nick! yes im cool, i hung the bass up about 10 years ago and now just getting back in to it!!! playing in a rocky band with mates from work (no slapping though!!!) kept my status and recently got myself a yamaha 5 string which has given me the bug to get a status 5! but also im looking at getting a new amp and always been a trace man but they are soooo heavy. i see you use mark bass, i was in the studio last night and they had a 2x10 combo there, how light!!! so what they like? i had trouble getting a good sound out of it but didnt had enough time to really try it out. ( and had no idea what the 2 knobs on the end meant!!!!) so do you really rate them? there are a lot of cash!!!
ps is there a pic of all your basses on here? (have you still got the pangbourne)
Steve

I know a number of people have had LEDs retro fitted so it should be possible. I know Sims can retro fit and I'm sure an enquiry to Status will let you know where they stand. Rich OTPJ might be able to enlighten you further.
