Roqsolid Cab Cover - My Bad Experience

Some of you have already read and offered your advice and opinions on the issues I was having with the cover I ordered from them. Please, read below the full story.

I have no doubt many of you have had very good experiences with them and that's the reason I ordered my cover from this place, based on the good feedback and comments I had read...My experience on the other hand has been very disappointing, I'm a bit shocked and surprised...as I hope you will understand.

Here you have in more detail what's happened:

I placed my order and the cover arrives but with the issues mentioned below:

1st Cover

- Cut too long. Including at the back where the wheels were supposed to be all exposed. You can't see it well on the pics but the cover was on the floor by 1 inch.
- Handles in wrong position
- Bottom strap too long so it didn't even attached on the velcro. Look at the pic to see what it looked like.
- Chalk markings on pretty much every corner of the cover. For some reason they don;t show too well on the pics but in relity they are quite visible.

After a chat with the manufacturer and mentioning all the issues they agree to take it back and correct it. I receive the 2nd cover but, again with some issues, some of them already present on the 1st cover:

2nd Cover

- Handles still in the wrong position.
- Wheels still covered partially, as on the 1st cover.
- All the chalk marks from the 1st cover are still present but now with and added "attach" mark
- Bottom starp now cut to the correct length...hurray!

Again, I have a chat and let them know about all the issues, cover is sent back to them and a week later I received the 3rd cover:

3rd Cover

- Handle holes still not on the right place. Better than on the previous two covers, on the first two they were too low, now they are high, I wouldn't be too bothered but as there's a couple of other issues and this is a 3rd attempt, is not good enough I think.
- Bottom strap, again cut way too long. This happened on the 1st cover, was done right on the 2nd and now on the 3rd is wrong again, same issue as on the 1st cover.
- Bottom strap velcros at the front rather than the back as I had requested, and as it was done right on the 2nd cover.
- On the plus side, chalk marks are now gone and the back is cut to the right length.
- They install those handle flaps for free on this cover, I thought it was as a bonus or apology...when I spoke to them the idea behind the flaps was if the handle holes need to be made bigger and were not centred the flaps would hide it.

I have to say on their favour, every time they have arranged and paid for the collection and delivery of the covers. They have also been willing to get the cover made right but after my two last phone call conversations, a month waiting and 3 covers later I have lost the little confidence I had left and I have decided against and cancelled my order.
I don't really understand, and no one gave me any explanation other that some laughing, how you can correct errors from the first cover on the 2nd and then made those things wrong again on the third cover.
Also, I was told they had never had any issues with these covers, when clearly, at least one person that I know returned his cover as it had the handles wrong too.

I'm not sure what's going on there but I'm not the only one having issues with them.

Sorry about the long post but I just wanted to explain clearly what has happened here and my experience.

I think you might just be unlucky with these covers - looking at the materials and construction I think I know who made it. I had a cover made for my Genz Benz Contour 500 combo and since they didn't have a pattern for it I sent all the dimensions plus a paper template for the side of the combo (which has a gently curved front rather than a bevel like some units) and it fits pretty much perfectly (though there is just a handle on top which is a simpler affair than yours). You're paying for a bespoke cover so it really should fit snugly and I think you're right to ask them to get it spot on. By the way, my cover had no evidence of any chalk marks.

Unlucky twice?..it could be.
Handles I don't know what it has been done but they are in the exact same position as on the first cover I received and the chalk marks was something I also mentioned to the manufacturer, I was expecting to get both things sorted but that hasn't happened :(

This does not bode well for me. I have a cover from these guys waiting to go onto the cab (same as yours) which arrives soon.

Let's hope it has just been mine

I got a cover, for a Hiwatt 4 x 12 that I had, from Roqsolid. At the time they'd never done one before so I had to do a full measure up. The finished result was fantastic; the Savile Row suit of amp covers, perfect fit with the handle holes bang on. Bryn said it's my measurements that they now use :D
Don't think it was close to £75 either, but it was a few years ago.

I recently ordered a cover for my Barefaced Super Twin cab and I'm having a bit of a dilemma here.

I received the cover and there were clearly some issues:

- The cover was too large for the cab, it over hanged on the floor for a good two cm all around.
- The side handle holes didn't match with the handles. The top handle was spot on.
- Strap holder had been cut so long it went pass the velcro it was supposed to be attached. If you were to velcro it the strap would hang by a long way.
- Back wheels were pretty much covered by the cover so wheeling the cab around would have meant damaging the cover on the first use.
- White chalk marks present on various parts of the cover.

I spoke to the manufacturer and they were very good and arrange for the cover to be picked up and new one to be made. We check all the dimensions and it turns out they had the wrong cab dimensions, not provided by me, so I sent them all the right meaurements.

I now have just received the 2nd, new, cover and to my surprise, the handle holes are still out of place and chalk marks are still present.
(On the pictures the marks don't show as much as they do in reality for some reason)

Whilst I'm more worried about the side handle holes and not the chalk marks around the cover, more marks than the ones shown in the pics, I do not think a newly made cover should be sent out to a customer, not one but twice, looking like that...at least I have owned many cabs and amps with covers and I have never seen this before.

Again, the cover is going back to the manufacturer who are again dealing with it well, what surprises me is the reply I got to the chalk marks:
"The chalk we use is admittedly a bit stubborn and the factory will see what they can do to sort it out for you. It will fade with time/can be removed with a damp cloth"
Why is this not being doing before sending it to the customer then?

Am I being too picky? Or is this what I should be expecting to get?
The cover is not particularly cheap, £75 delivered.

I'm not having a go at the manufacturer, as I have said twice they are dealing with the issues and communication is good. I don't want this thread to turn nasty against the company.
Just asking for people's opinions and advice on the issues I'm having.

I don't think you're being picky in the slightest. I could get this for the same price for my cab; http://www.bassgear.co.uk/product/aguilar/aguilar-db112-speaker-protective-cover/

I own the Aguilar covers for my cabs and feel they justify the price. I'd be very unhappy if I'd had one custom made for £75 and what you've posted arrived.

I had a custom cover made for me by a small local company called Bacsew, it was for a little 1x10 but only cost a bit over £20 and it's excellent quality with loads of padding. I was looking at the Roqsolid ones but they are expensive for thin covers IMO.

Here's some of his work on eBay, he does zip up covers too as well as velcro:

I've had Aguilar covers before and they were great, I agree, very well made and well padded.

Thanks for that, I'll have a look in case this doesn't work out in the end.

Not too impressed so far now with their latest replies to my emails.
After replying to my last two emails, they have avoided both times to answer when asked if the second cover I received was the same as the first one since handle holes and marks were on the same positions.

Well, welll, well...third cover has just arrived and, it's still wrong!

- Handle holes, in the wrong position, too high up.
- Placeholder strap velcros at the front rather than the back, as I had requested and as it was done on the previous cover.
- Also Placeholder strap cut too long, so only a tiny little bit sticks on the velcro. 1st cover had this issue, was solved on the 2nd cover, and now on the 3rd cover it's wrong again.

One month and 3 covers later...Not happy, I'm not happy at all

Man that is ridiculous. At this stage I'd just be requesting my money back. Somebody clearly doesn't care about their work!

I tend to agree, they've messed up three times; doesn't inspire any confidence in their ability to get it right next time.

Heck. Three times??? Something isn't right here. I can imagine this is very frustrating.

I ordered a Genz cover before Xmas from a cover company, and whilst it was sorted out, I had to give them new dimensions and explain what was wrong as the cover was far far too big.

It got sorted in the end. I'm shocked they haven't just sent you a brand new one. At this point, I'd get a refund.

£75.00 is a lot of money for a cover...so it needs to be right.

Agreed - the Aguilar covers are the best in the business.

Interesting, I had a cover made by Roqsolid for my Super Twin (#001) and the side handle cutouts were an inch out, apparently they had used dimensions supplied by another owner. The side handles are not dead centre, they are an inch or so higher. They sent me a replacement cover within a couple of days.

What I hadn't thought about, but clearly will be the case for some, is variance/tolerance in cabinet dimensions (particularly with respect to handle placement) - so for those selecting a cover from the 'standard' list they might do well to measure everything and order as if it were a totally custom job (which I had to, to the extent of sending a side paper template for my Genz Benz Contour combo as it has a slightly curved rather than a sloped or bevelled front). Mine is spot on for fit.

I completely agree with all of you, I'm not too confident with what I've seen so far.
I even took the measurements of the cab myself for the second cover and sent it to them.

So on the replacement cover you received , are the handle holes fine?
I have to say to get every cover has taken a week, or more, not just days.

Yes, on my replacement cover the handle holes are in exactly the right place. I don't think they could be in the centre of the cab as there is internal structure preventing it, so possibly the first order just 'assumed' they were in the middle. Roqsolid phoned me to confirm the correct position before remaking the cover, and refunded my return postage promptly, I have no complaints and would use them again.

Lucky you!
I would understand getting it wrong on the first cover if they had the wrong measurements.
What I don't really get how, after giving them the dimensions and handle positions over the phone and by email, they still get it wrong on the next two covers. Also add the bottom strap in the wrong position.

I take it this is not Roqsolid? They have stock dimensions from Alex I believe and do a good cover as well as being helpful & quick - they designed and built a cover for my bass pedals from initial email, followed by a swift exchange re dimensions & requirements, to delivery in about 10 days.

Get your money back and try them - unless it is them in which case OOPS!

Plus you really want the handle to be directly above the centre of gravity, which is not necessarily the same as the physical centre.

True, I often carry the cab by one side handle (as it is so light) and it balances fine
