Absolute Beginner Posted January 4, 2014 Share Posted January 4, 2014 Hi all. I'm new to the world of bass playing, but am really enjoying playing my 1 week old Epiphone Viola ! I wondered if anyone could kindly steer me in the direction of a good bass tab book for beginners.....? There are Beatles tracks - Come Together & Paperback Writer - plus Cream, Kiss, Hendrix, Stones, Queen etc. As a beginner, I am finding it easy to follow. I'm guessing you may be using a tablet or mobile phone when reading BC, and not see what I was referring to. On the full computer version, to the left of the posting itself are from top to bottom: - your login name - your advancement status on BC (this is not an official term. I made it up in lack of knowledge.) - your avatar - some other stuff, like where you live and what your interests are. In your case, the advancement status reads "No longer a newbie". This only means you have written more than 10 posts. But as you may gather, I couldn't resist the temptation to make you aware that you are NOT a newbie anymore. Nice, eh? Yes, it is useful up to a point, but it is far more beneficial to develop your ear by listening to a simple song and then trying to play along. You love the Beatles. Their early songs have some bass lines that should be reasonably easy to figure out by ear, with a little time and patience. This time and patience will pay dividends in the long run. Being fully dependant on tabs will only lead to a dead end. I realise that this is not what you asked for, but IMO the advice is valid. I can learn stuff about three times quicker using GP than reading it off a dusty page. And it doesn't date, as long as people are producing accessible GP files for songs as they are released.
