My mate bought this - he's borrowing my Warwick till he collects. I'll give you a report when it arrives ;)

He's done well then ... that's at least £100 less than I'd expected.

For £155 that is a serious amount of bass he's bought.

:)

The 'problem' with them is the name, people think it's cheap and nasty.

yep - that and the (shape of the) headstock, I've had a few of these and nearly had one many moons ago as my first proper bass.
Ended up going for a MIM Fender Jazz Deluxe in the shop basically because it said Fender on the headstock - in the days before I knew about MIM, MIA, MIJ etc etc. The SGC Nanyo was the better bass but I was swayed by what my mates would have thought.....how things have changed!!!

I wanted one way back when they first came out after trying one at a guitar fair in the Barbican - very impressed. I've got a four string now and I'm still impressed - compares favourably with a lot of the gear in my collection...

Your mate got a real bargain...

I've got an ebay saved search on these. £155 seems par for the course for these basses as per the last few that have sold. I haven't had a chance to play one, so aren't bidding as high as I might do if I had. Looks like it's the time to buy however.

Personally I wonder if the 'el cheapo P/J bass' look counts against them, as they look like a Stagg P/J bass (presumably because the Stagg BC300 copies the Bass Collection basses.

Edit: Here's a SB330 going at a higher price. Watchlisted so that I see if it sells. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=310745871662&fromMakeTrack=true&ssPageName=VIP:watchlink:top:en

The 4-string fretless SB330 looks familiar, think it might be on sale here.

I think £155 for the 5 was a pretty good price. It appears to have an ebony board, so is a better quality than the standard 315s. GregBass please explain to your mate how to string the B and G properly (ie the other way around the machine head post).

Hi.

I bought the Bass Collection you are talking about here (hey Greg!). I was never a member of any bass forums but I think that needs to change so here I am posting for a very first time on Basschat!

It is in mint condition (see the pictures). It needed a good clean because I guess somebody just kept it in the bag for a very long time (battery went out of date almost 2 years ago). I just finished the setup, changed battery, strings and had a first proper go at it and it is exactly what I have researched about it before I bought it - a lot of bass for the money! Seriously it can growl and it can sing depending what you set on dials. Really happy with it! It is my first 5 string but I borrowed a Warwick Corvette from @Gregbass and obviously this one is never gonna be Warwick (which I felt in love with, damn you Greg!!) but for what I have paid it's a joke really...if I buy Warwick this one will have to go, I cant afford 3 basses at the moment (I also have US Jazz Bass 4 string) and Warwick is an expensive buy for me :(

Can somebody though tell which model is it? I couldn't find anything on the bass and it needs specialist insight to be sure..

The SB320 series had gold hardware so I would have said it's a 315. But the ebony fretboard and natural wood finish suggests a 320 series again. I think they may have changed the specs around a bit between the different series. Actually, I was just trawling the SGC Nanyo Facebook page and it looks like it may be an SB505.

Nice Corvette you've got there by the way. :)

Thanks Greg, a lot of usefull information ! Athoug, my wife is in process of changing her photo system so I think it's all about good timing hehe

So looks like it's either 315 or 505. I have seen this picture on FB https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10151395210264108&set=o.122332681404&type=3&theater which suggests SB505. Thanks everybody, most important thing is it sounds and plays good!

Now, waiting for my Corvette...
