john_the_bass
is it a G&L Asat? edit: tiny pic robbed off the net. Edited June 8, 2008 by john_the_bass

Lfalex v1.1
That's what I thought when presented with "Sparkly Telebass"... They're wicked good (IMO) but they're US only. They don't do a Korean "Tribute" model. Not too easy to find, and not very cheap when you do. Cass Lewis sometimes used them in Skunk Anansie if you want to hear what can be got from them... Liam Wilson on the Bass Player magazine website Fairly scarce I think but I've been lucky enough to have found two. One's a honeyburst semi-hollow and the other's a natural. Kier (Dub_junkie) has one too (I got my semi-hollow off him) and I believe his is sparkly gold too.....lucky so-and-so! Fabulous basses. Jean-Luc Pickguard
The orange onedoes look lovely Possibly a bit of a neck-divey shape though I guess a hollow body might help though.
tonyf
The orange onedoes look lovely Possibly a bit of a neck-divey shape though I guess a hollow body might help though.
Not at all, I've never found them to be neck divey but then again, I tend to have them relatively low and good straps with a bit of grip against my clothing (use a couple of Comfort Strapps and a plain wide leather one) make a difference. To be honest, there's not as much between the solid and semi-hollow weight wise or tonally. The semi-hollow is only erm semi-hollow in one a smallish cavity on the top of the body. The semi- seems to have a bigger bottom end and tonally blooms a little more than the solid which has a more focused mid range and feels and sounds a bit like a precision on steroids. All in all, very Fender'esque, hardly surprising considering who designed it! T
odub
I find neck dive a bit on mine, or rather, the bass likes to sit parallel to the ground. I thick strap mostly sorts it out mind, and there's a third party add on thing that someone sells that repositions the neck strap button behind the plate. Still great basses though. Mokl
I loved mine - the neck was wicked, build quality absolutely first class and the tone to die for. I couldn't cope with the neck dive though, it really bugged me. Might not be so bad worn lower though, but I prefer to wear my basses fairly high. dmz
You could always go down the Warmouth route....... http://www.warmoth.com/bass/bodies/custom_t.cfm
joegarcia
Would love an ASAT, especially this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/New-G-L-USA-ASAT-Bass-...3QQcmdZViewItem
paul h
That is quite simple stunning. Are the pickups tapable because I hate humbuckers?

Lfalex v1.1
That black one is superb. I like the bound ones! I have only one gripe- Why do they insist on using pick-up selector switches? I'd much prefer a pan pot or 2x Volume controls to eke some more subtle tonal variations out of it. The tones available are all good, but all very "meaty". Bet they're good "in the mix" though. bassbluestew
OMG.....................if that black one was a fiver I'd be a kidney less right now...I love my L-2500 and would LOVE an ASAT 5'er. S

lowhand_mike
doesn't it say at the bottom of the bass player review that he plays a G&L L-2000 fretted and fretless? but yeah i agree it does indeed look like an asat.

RichardH
That black one is lovely, innit. You'd be lucky to find a black bridge for it though - though the early (i.e. 83 ish) were black. For those who don't realise, the ASAT has exactly the same electronics and pickups as the L2000, so it's just the body shape that is different. More ASAT porn Rare 5 stringer: I'm sure I saw the bass player with Cat Stevens playing a sparkly ASAT 5er when he did that BBC session a little while ago. Wish I'd never asked now Thing is, I've never even thought the Tele body looked any good 'till I saw these. RichardH
As standard the ASATs have the 1.5" nut width neck (that you can also get US L2000s in, you know). However, I did see a special order ASAT with the 1.75" nut width on eBay once.
