Although, I'd much rather have a current American Standard with a MOP block Rosewood board on it for the extra bits, than have one of these new MIM ones lacking the High Mass bridge, the light Schaller tuners and probably slightly better pups. If their marketing department gets really stuck they could reissue a vintage model of a Jazz bass made on 3rd of June, 1970 by Fred, just before his tea break!!! Since you can get a new MIM standard for about £300 I wouldn't pay more than 50% of the existing price just for block inlays and a pickup to be moved <----------> this much. [/quote] 4 bolt plate Bit strange actually - they have the 4 bolt plate from the earlier '70 J's and the bullet truss rod nut from the later ones. I like it and I daresay I'd like one until it turned up and it needed a new set of half decent pickups and a bridge with a bit of mass. Up until recently there was a pretty large market in the US for importing the Japanese "non-export" instruments, of which a large proportion were the '70's reissues. A few months ago I read that the US government had made this illegal for some reason (they do a lot of things for apparently no reason, governments do...) so these MIM basses make perfect sense! The cheapest Mex 60's classic Jazz I have seen was £541, so expect the 70's one to be there or abouts. Was thinking about the 60s one until I saw this thread! GAS....
