Any SG/Short Scale fans??

After years playing a Gibson SG bass, I recently dabbled in the long scale, 5 string option.
I was so convinced that this was the way for me to go, I bought an American Standard PrecisionV (5 string), but having rehearsed and gigged it with the band numerous times, I keep returning to my beloved SG and I've decided to stay with that.
Thing is, most posts [i]seem[/i] to be about long scale 4/5 string branded/boutique basses so my question is, are there many SG / short scale fans out there and if so, what's your story??

Im a fan... always wanted an eb3 but never had the cash when a good one became available. I do have an Epiphone limited edition short scale which is a great guitar.

I'm playing an SG Reissue bass and love it. The output is a bit low so I'm playing it through a BD-2 Blues Driver and it's perfect for old rock/blues covers. I switched to bass around 6 months ago, got myself in a band and we've got our first gig in a couple of weeks.

I played Hofner for a while after 20yrs of Fender. If you practice enough I don't think scale length change makes a huge difference and it's easy to adapt to the change. I reckon it's mostly in our heads and a lot of players are put off short scale before they've really tried them or given them a proper chance.

Danelectro Longhorn player here - great short scale bass for not a lot of dosh.
I also play a Stingray and a Precision and don't have any trouble swapping between the different scale
lengths, it is quite interesting as it can make you have a slightly approach which can be a good thing!
Always quite fancied an Ibanez AB semi too, although for some reason have never wanted to go down
the Fender short scale route - Mustang etc.

Mustang and Musicmaster here. Currently selling the Musicmaster and will probably get another Mustang! Loving the looks of the new closet classics.

So I accepted a Mustang as part of a trade deal a while ago and just instantly loved it. I've never been a particularly flamboyant player so losing a couple of frets is no worry to me. The smaller body and overall size makes it very comfortable indeed and I think they look great!

I dont think I'm too bothered about the short-scaleness of it; I think I just like the bass very much. I can easily change to long scale and if required I'll use a long scale for a gig or something. I think it would be wrong to say that I will only play short scale from now on!

I really like the old 32" medium scale Aria TSB basses, but prefer the older ones with the 4 tuners in a line headstock.
I have two, a 650N, a 350B, and I'd like my old 550N fretless back.

The scale length is a nice compromise between the SG/Mustang 30" and the usual 34" (I've had Stingrays, Precisions, and various Ibanez).

No, they're Z pickups, able to be coil tapped (hence the mini toggles).

I realy like playing this bass, in original trim the pickup was weak n the tone controle was more like an extra volume, just killed it. had a lot of fret buz but a couple a twaks n that was sorted. fit n finish are spot on, flawless paint work n adding the black pearl pick guard has improved the looks even more. At the price i would say they are good value, with a few mods its better than any of the std MIJs ive tryed IMHO. neck is very smooth and fast (but i do prefer the finish of the MIJ neck) cost wise 235 for bass 85 for emg 30 for the tape wound strings 10 for a set of fender jaz control knobs and 17 for a sheet of black pearl (made three pick guards from that !) so for just over 360 i see it as a bargin. Half the price of an MIJ and looks nicer too.

My washburn is a short scale, it's the first one I have owned and I quite like it, I don't think it lacks anything soundwise and as an acoustic I think the shortscale makes it less of a handful

Hi Guys........great responses, thanks for taking the time.
Nice to see so many players enjoying their short scale basses even though we're in a minority. When I went back to my SG, it truly was like the return of the prodigal, I've learnt my lesson and promised I shall never stray from her again, it MUST be true love!
Just out of interest,.......one modification I made last year...Hipshot "Supertone" bridge, no drilling or major work needed, just drops right on top of the original three point bridge fittings, but really improves tuning, intonation and sustain. I also prefer the through body, glued in neck option too!

[u][color=#0000cd][b]AND ONE QUESTION PLEASE [/b][/color][/u]I have a Gibson hard case but [u][i][b]please[/b][/i][/u] does[b].[/b] anyone know where I can get a good quality gig bag for the short scale SG bass (SKB semi-hard gig case or similar) They all seem to be either long scale or poor quality or can't accomodate the "two a side" tuner configuration; any suggestions greatly appreciated!!

I recently bought an Epiphone EB0 for not very much. This was my first short scale bass and I like it lots in terms of comfort and playability. Maybe I was lucky but the build quality was pretty good, too. For some reason I get on with the short scale quite well, even though I am not a particularly small chap. Equally strangely I can switch from 30" to 34" without blinking (switching from headstock to headless and back caused me all sorts of problems initially. not the same, I know, but nevertheless... ) I changed the pup to a Dimarzio, dropped in a KiOgon wiring harness with new pots (the tone actually does something now) and fitted a Hipshot Supertone bridge and it has transformed it completely. It doesn't do much but what it does, it does brilliantly.

I agree with your choice of the ETB92 Med. I use the ETB92S for the SG Std. I'm just waiting for the order to come through for the SG Std.

my eb3 short scale mod to strung through the body lets me use std scale strings, got Picato strings on it at mo n like them a lot too. infact all my basses have nylons on so they must all be ladys lol.
