Ahem not as easy with the Fender Vintage Nickel RI as it was with the Schallers on the last one I did. Took some dowel wrapped in 180 sand paper and attempted a push fit of the bush after every few strokes. Only taken me an hour to fit the first bush!!!! This could take a while!! Luckily I have not drilled any holes yet.... So in a rush of madenss I have a set of Gotoh GBR640 tuners on their way to me. [66grams each!!!! That's 2/3 the weight of the Schaller BMLs i used last time!!] The Fender Vintage Nickel reverse wind tuners will be sold.....soon....probably. I had to use the nickel bushes from the Fender Vintage set because I sanded the tuner reams open a little too much the other night for the Gotoh nickel bushes...DOH!! I have had gas for some time to build some kind of 5 string Tele bass monster wit a couple of different pickups. I had no idea that warmouth existed ! [/quote] Both my Warmoth necks are slim taper jazz. They feel slim and narrow to me - they suit my average sized hands. I haven't tried their standard neck profile. All I'd played before Warmoth for any length of time was my JV P which has a much wider fretboard but about the same thickness of neck. I bought the parts over about 4 years and ended up with parts for several other basses, like the Jazz 5 body that fits a Fender 5 neck from before they changed the heel size after retooling in the mid 90's and the fretless P bass 5 that had Hipshot hardware and EMG's but was really a modded 4 string body attached to a neck with a cut down heel both thanks to ebay and me not asking enough questions. All turned out well tho. The cost isn't something i think to think about as customs got me for £170ish on the body, neck and tuners. The pickups are Lindy Fralin with a series/parallel push pull and tone styler. P and J in one bass! (almost) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Twigman Posted June 14, 2012 Author Share Posted June 14, 2012 Teething trouble at rehearsal last night. Bizarrely the A/E side of the pickup cut out a few times. Got home, opened it up. The earth wire from the A/E coil did not look securely soldered to the shield plate although when I opened the bass the A/E coil was working and the wire was 'stuck' to the solder blob. I blobbed another dollop of solder on it and we'll see how it goes tonight (another rehearsal!!).. Strange coz that was originally soldered by Fender, not me. I say gigged but it was an open rehearsal with about 30 odd (and I mean odd) folk in the room with us. It worked beautifully. Hooky6stringbass from here was there...he had a go on this bass too.
