Ruck Posted February 23, 2012 Share Posted February 23, 2012 This may or may not help you as im 6ft 3" but I prefer to play nothing but heavy basses and my back ain't too much a fan of this either during a 3hr set or band practise. However I cope alot better when doing a 3hr set than a practise as Im always altering my posture and playing position and this seems to help alot. I always suffer at band practise more as Im constantly stood up straight. As I said this probably wont help you much as we're two different people but if it helps me out it may be something to consider? For example I alternate alot from playing with the body of the bass against my belly and the neck to the left of me, to body of bass at my side against my hip with the neck infront of me. I just didn't realise how precious the back can be, and how little it takes to upset it. I'll have to look into the Overwater strap. If it's working for a fellow-sufferer, it should work for me. [/quote] I am hoping for an actual Fender, however I'm considering the Matt Freeman signature. But, if I got one of those I'd have to replace the neck for two reasons - firstly because I can't stand the gloss finish, and secondly because I couldn't have either the signature on the front of the headstock or the Squier logo (before anyone says it, I'm not a snob! The first of those (the black'un...) is a snip at that price, hard case, new battery an' all. Light weight, 'real' Fender, Jap made... If looks are really of that much importance to you (and why not..?), then put up with the weight and that's that. If you want a superb lightweight instrument, look no further. [/quote]huh? isn't neck dive a problem with fenders anyway? it isn't the body weight which affects neck dive but the position of the strap buttons and the sheer enormity of a 4 in line headstock. I know from my profile pic, obviously I used to play with the neck shooting up .. but that was a couple of years ago now, .. Less than my Sterlng bass, which after mod's now weighs 8.6lbs. Any issues like neck dive were non existant as I use a quality strap. I used to use those clip lock things that were made off seat belts, a nice strap but no support and everything would dive due to it's slippy texture.
