Don't know yet - picking it up when I get home tomorrow. Will give you some feedback once I have had a noodle with it. Have a rehearsal on Tuesday too so should be able to give it more of a bash then.

Shamefully I opted for one in natural again!!
I'm fairly certain my next one wil be a Classic5 after a couple of deals to secure a very early 5 both fell through. What's it like? :)
That's what I'm talking about. :)
+1 it's why I don't mind using my tidy one, if it ends up like CK's all the better :)

I thought maybe you had taken the one from BassDirect Gunsfreddy, if things were more settled with the wifes job I'd of already bought that one by now. All in good time....

No I really only wanted a natural coloured one and I was also quite particular about how much figuring there is on the back of the neck. I also wanted to buy a bass that was made in 2011 to celebrate my son's birth so decided a Stingray 5 Classic might be a good investment seeing as my YOB jazz cost quite a lot to buy 34 years later!! Anyway my son was born on 23rd Feb this year and this Stingray was built on 22nd Feb 2011 so just had to have it!!

Everyone talks about the B string on these basses - are they really any better than on a normal Stingray 5?

OMG double vision - what a lovely pair!!

Nice radio dial knobs on the bottom one.

Did you buy them both at the same time or one first then the other? Interested to know why you went for two the same colour?

Finally managed to get some pics up of my '77 Stingray. Forgive the bad pics but they were the best that I could manage on my camera phone. I will get some better ones up once my wife finds some time and her camera!!

Last pic shown the pre EB bass alongside the new Classic Stingray 5 that I have just bought.

Having huge problems uploading images so used Photobucket and link is below.

The pre is fantastic and fast becoming my favourite bass!

It just sits so well in the mix and sounds so good when you dig in a bit during some funky music - that growl cannot be matched by any other bass IMO.

I only draw backs with the bass that I have found are the neck (it feels very fat compared to my jazz and Rumour) and the weight it is bloody heavy compared to my other basses and particularly the Classic 5 which is a lot, lot lighter.

In what way do you find it fat mate, nut width or the actual depth? Mine is really slim depth wise and flat like an Ibanez guitar, I Love it! I also dropped on light one, its the lightest of all 3 of mine, I can only imagine how good it sounds for the extra weight though :)

Actual depth - compared to the jazz and the Rumour it feels really wide. I am not sure that it is a bad thing just different if you know what I mean.

The classic 5 does not feel quite as bad but the action is really a bit too low so will have to get that looked at.

Yes probably - if I could just get both Stingrays to have the action like the jazz and Rumour then I would be happy!!

The Pre-EB desperately needs some new strings so did not get taken to rehearsal last week - can't stand it when the strings sound dead.

Another job for Bernie?, I'm thinking of sending him my 5 for a little fret work and setup if I buy something as a backup to use while it's away, it's good but I feel it could be even better with some Bernie magic :)

All of my basses are dull at the moment, Just trying to get the last few drops out of them especially the 5'er as its my last pack of pink EB's. Gigging at the Robin 2 on saturday so that might be the gig for fresh ones.

For some reason I like the 5's action a little lower than the 4's, I think it makes me play a bit jazzier :)
