Ok, to keep the ball rolling, here's my '79 StingRay - my main gigging bass for the past 25 years.

I bought it second-hand in 1986 from the Soho Soundhouse in London. The only thing that is not 100% original is the scratchplate - which comes from a transition-era StingRay and is matt black as opposed to gloss black - as when I bought it there was no scratchplate on it.

Anyone got an old gloss black scratchplate they don't want....? :)

Keep hunting Sibob its out there somewhere!

Thats well nice Matski, There was a guy trying to sell a pick guard on ebay as a vintage one for £89, I messaged him to tell him it was at least late 80's more likely 90's as it had the cutout for the wheel of fortune and I just got back a nasty message asking why I felt I needed to tell them this, I sent one back saying I didnt want a fellow pre EB fan to waste £89 on an £18.99 pickguard! It was an amp company in Walsall, West mids that were selling it through there online shop but I cant remember what they are called? Idiots will have to do until I remember!

There was a thread not all that long ago where a privileged BCer was defending paying £500 for a Fodera one?
I suppose it's ok if you're luck enough to be in a position where you can save up your child tax credits to go toward ostentatious crap. :)

Anyways, we digress... There must be more pre-EBs out there in Basschatland - let's see 'em, folks!
There must be but I think some are keeping them to themselves? :)

If I really needed one and it was a correct none WOF cutout one I would probably offer near to that, Where else could you get one? But the fact it was possibly no older than my 2002 Ray he was taking the Michael. He said they swapped it in the shop for a mirror one and the guy gave them that in exchange as it was a vintage one! I pointed out clearly why it wasnt 110% and just got grief back in fact it was Sheldon amps I have no worries about naming them as its all true :D
It's tempting to let you play anyway with an 86' But will that derail the threads authenticity? I would like to see it anyway as a Ray fan in general is it in the EB porn thread?
you must know that the parts are definately pre ernie ball because is dated 86 but only logo is ernieball is the transition era i think

i am sure this is like an 82-84 period bass and is the best ray ever had

i think is better from some pre ones i played (actually i played one fretted)

this my beauty http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=70406&hl=

Hi I was told it is a refin (by Gordon Smith Guitars) done in the early 80's and strap buttons changed (has Dunlop strap locks on now) the rest is all original sounds fantastic. Will let you know if I sell it.

I'm not bursting your bubble but the body has contours so it's 100% not from before 85 ish :) Still very nice though!

It's really really nice and where did you get that pre EB logo strap? I'm very envious of both! :)

Thanks the strap is an original MusicMan strap. It came free when I bought a 74 Jazz Bass
