What i really would recommend is Stuart claytons slap bass book with accompanying cd. Obviously no pictures to watch but far more useful imho !!. cheers Al. [/quote] I own the ole Slap Bass Program by Alexis on video.. rather old now, but yeah, does cover the basics and works up on speed to demonstrate machine gun triplets etc... Bill 'the buddha' dickens has a few DVDs out where he demonstrates his techniques that are quite cool, if a little messy at high speed. Mr Wooton will no doubt get a mention when it comes to slap technique. You may be able to find Stu Hamm's produce out there too.. oh who else.. Did Mark King do one? As far as I'm concerned it is still the best out there (And I've checked out every single one to my knowledge). Yes if doesn't cover double thumbing ala Wooten, but to be honest, you probably won't use it anyway. Buba, if you are new to slap, my comment still stands, buy that book and if you can, get a teacher, even if it is just for one lesson. If you have money to spare, buy the dvds, be wow'd, but don't expect to play like them anytime soon or have the technique explained in any great depth. I didn't get far on that, cuz I've started slappin' on 5string, that means it a lil bit harder to produce 'clean' slap ( for me, of course...) and decided to change my technique from the trad slap to double thumbing. Contact Bass central for details or check out youtube for the intro segment. This video always makes me smile when I think about how much wasted time I spent, during my spotty youth watching it instead of learning about music and more usefull bass playing. Low Down Dave Posted March 5, 2009 Share Posted March 5, 2009 I tend to find the DVD’s start off really basic then suddenly jump to advanced stuff with no middle ground, but the ED Friedland Slap Bass the Ultimate guide is as good as any and better than most, and cheap. The Stuart Clayton Ultimate Slap Bass book with CD’s is really the ultimate guide, it will really help you develop your technique and it is very highly recommended and pretty much all you need. If it's of any interest to those reading this thread, I will soon be uploading audio files for all the exercises that were left off of the two CD's that ship with Ultimate Slap Bass - there were just too many exercises in the book to fit on the discs! I will also be adding a whole batch of new exercises of all levels, plus hopefully some videos of some of the lines in the book. All free too!
