1. That looks amazing. If I were not trying to cut my collection I'd be all over that!
2. The picture is not working, and thats a shame as this bass sounds great!
3. So you're trying to offload a mk1?
4. Interesting. I remember buying some Spector strings, they came with a handy little cloth to clean them with. I suppose this is the same sort of thing, just with more of them.
5.
There is much much worse out there Good job he actually has a day job 'MD of Orange???'
To be fair, you'd struggle to make anything sound good through an Orange amp, but that was absolutely dire.
6. For my overall favourite bass tone, you just can't beat Geddy Lee's Wal sound. It's incredible. Hold Your Fire is probably my favourite record of all time, but the bass sound on Power Windows is just a little bit more aggressive and 'in your face'. It's absolutely sublime. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRqQ6dL6ZJQ
7. I love Jonathan Creek, I've got the DVD boxed set!
8. I've had a fretless VM Jazz bass and two Classic Vibe Jazz basses and they've all been great. Granted, the CV's are the better basses but the VM was pretty good too.
9. I stumbled across this hideously bad slap video the other day. I usually enjoy excessive, 1980's slap bass sounds but this is just f***ing crap. I am not sure this guy can even hear himself. Actually, his facial expressions after 00:50 seconds suggest he is having some sort of fit, induced by his his own crapness. The tone sucks, the playing is aimless and awful and his timing is very poor. What a disaster, 0/10. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yU39GE2Xa6A

11. Yeah, his slap playing is pretty good.
12. I grabbed the Status this afternoon and sat down with a bottle of sarsaparilla for a play along to the soundtrack of Street Fighter 2.
13. Yes, i asked about this one a while ago, it sold IIRC.
14. Lovely bass. I've always been a fan of these. Maybe I should buy a proper Elrick one day!
15. Ah yes, I see it now that I've zoomed in on the flickr picture!
16. I wouldn't think too seriously about detuning a short scale other than half a step or maybe a step at a push. And even then, you'll likely need some thicker strings to keep it sounding a feeling good. They are neat items on their own but not ideal for detuning. Can you imaging Stanley knocking out low B's on his Alembics?
17. The 'Honky Tonk' label doesn't fill me with confidence but I hope you are enjoy it!
18. This is probably the route I would take if I were to buy another 5 string. That said, I have never really felt comfortable with having the E where the B would usually be. I'd probably just get a 6 string instead!
19. It looks as though this bass is now sold on a multi installment payment plan. Thanks for looking, folks!
20.
I sort of agree with Janek where he said that Bona should leave his bass (especially fretless?) aside, and stick to his acoustic guitar+vocals thing, where he really sounds a unique artist and composer.
Quite ironic that Janek should say something about someone else having a unique voice as a musician, he is as derivative as they come himself!
21. I thought the bass tone was poor and the music was awful, but man, the bassist has a massive pedal board!
22. Yes, I tend to go through phases of playing one almost exclusively and loving it and then playing another a week or two later and remembering why I love that one so much!
23. Indeed. Perhaps why it's a struggle to find a 'great' sounding mainstream record from the past decade, sound quality is just not a concern there anymore!
24. Take the J. In fact, take any Fender unless it's a high end job. If there is big money and a producer who is quite particular about the sound he gets, take a Smith, a Fodera and Alembic and tell him to take his pick!
25. He is an awesome sideman. If anyone heard him on the "Word of Mouth revisited" jaco tribute record, he really kicked ass there. I think he's somewhat overlooked though, as his own songs are never really amazing. It's been a long time since I saw this video and was wowed by those fretless chops, so thank you!
