Kid in a candy shop - but with basses & amps instead of sweets!

The Killer B there looks amazing! They are fantastic looking and sounding basses. Were I in the area I'd go out of my way to pop in and say hello. When will photographs of this Anthony Jackson Fodera be coming on the site? Can you tell us a little more about it, like how much it will be selling for? -
That's no party trick..! It ain't a party without your Chapman stick. Garry
That is just fantastic. This guy must be the host of the evening's event!
(Lee Ritenour was the other act on the bill with Brian Bromberg on bass - he's no slouch on the instrument either).
Wow, now that really would have been something to see!

Is he playing MTD basses now? He was a Tobias user back in the late 80's and early 90's and then used Roscoe basses for ages too. Monster player, the first time I heard him was on a Jaco Pastorius tribute album in which he covered Havona, using one his 'upside down' basses. His performance there was nearly as good as Jaco's job the first time round! It's a same the Yellowjackets weren't 'better'. They have wrote some cracking songs (Claire's Song for example) but often put out albums filled with dross.

Whats your favorite rare, exotic bass... no pics no go...

Cheers for writing back! Just been reading through some of my old posts in this thread. Shame to see that Tung still doesn't seem to have come back (still) and Curbow is still off the map. I never thought Curbow would make a serious go of things after production seemed to tail off shortly after Greg's death, but I had high hopes for Nicholas Tung's reappearance on the scene as he is a seriously talented builder. Still feel the same about my ACG. I've just bought it some new strings so I'm going to change them over in the next couple of days and give them a proper whizz. -
This guy must go to some pretty crappy parties.

What are you listening to right now?

Interesting (but very long) interview with Percy Jones from 2004

Interesting interview. I like it how he calls a fretboard radius a camber! -
Chris- the world is smaller every day - stuff's getting to thailand, japan, iceland and south america- only a matter of time till someone there decides to place an order - best in 2012!
I Just hope that one day we'll have a UK supplier. In the same way now that Zons are more and more common on our shores, whereas a decade ago they were as rare as hen's teeth, down to them getting UK suppliers importing them with some vigour. I hope your basses will one day be as popular in the United Kingdom, they look fantastic.
Sorry to be pedantic but that's a Level 42 30th Anniversary Kingbass The Status 30th Anniversary is a headless S2 shape although they don't seem to be any around other than the one Rob showed at last years London Bass show. But that's a very nice bass you have there though.
That was a f***ing belter, the proper 30th Anniversary bass. The S2 should be overhauled completely in line with the 'new' model.

Yes, they are incredible. One day I'll probably buy another. If I could bear to sell my Streamer I'd order another tomorrow.
People comment on how slim the Fender Jazz neck is on the Geddy Lee model. The original got that way after his judicious use of sandpaper, as I understand.
Indeed. In fact, I recall there was a batch of early Geddy Lee models that were known for having faulty necks, shaved so thin they warped at the drop of a hat.

I love these Sukop basses. They're so well spoken of on Talkbass, and yet never really make it to these shores. A shame.

Sometimes I'll have a couple of weeks off playing a bass, and then go back to it and fall in love with it all over again. This tends to happen with my ACG however much I play it, I can always find a tone that sounds fresh and interesting to my ears and I remember why it's such a great bass. Filter preamps do give that flexibility.

Having played a couple of Suhr jazz basses I was surprised to find they were nothing special beyond the fancy top woods. Just another jazz bass, really. Their guitars I did find a little more inspiring, I have to say.
What were you hoping for, a lame copy cover?
No, I was hoping for a great cover. But Depeche Mode might just be un-coverable, a bit like Rush.
I suppose it very similar to the Flea Bass (which seems to be its replacement, though Modulus still offers this option) but with slight more low end and obviously a far nicer finish.
This is more closely related to the Quantume basses. The Modulus Sonic Hammer was the bass that spawned the Flea Bass and the Funk Unlimited.
The texture of the grain really is lovely... Sadly I sold its fretted bookmatched pair about 10 years ago... can be seen in action here:- Please no comments on the quality of the miming or the chewing!!
My main question is, who the hell was buying these guy's records?

Recommended basses for playing up the dusty end
Chris2112 replied to thebassman's topic in Bass Guitars
Warwicks are very good for this. They tend to be quite musical at the top, namely the treble frequencies aren't so bright and zingy as to make soloing and chording sound vulgar. Just as important as upper fret access is an even quality of tone, where the highs are just as present and musical as the low notes. For this, Status are also excellent, their basses have a very fine, even response with great definition on the higher notes. On the other hand, most Fenders are not much use for this, nor are Musicman Stingrays. They suffer not only from a limited number of frets, but their blocky heels get in the way of the hand, the access around the cutaway can be poor and they often suffer from uneven tones, favouring boomy low notes over sweet, crisp mids and highs. YMMV. -
