1.
Hello Pete! recognize this TRB 6 ?!?!? this photos were taken after some serious restoration process and now seems it came out yesterday from factory!
That would look superb with a nice amber/orange finish.
2. Hyperactive by Thomas Dolby. If I could just nail that opening bass lick and then get a band to play it...
3. It is nice indeed. But given I only play my basses for a couple of hours a week in the house now, it seems a little frivolous to have two fretted fours, especially when I am listening to so much fretless stuff at the moment. Hence I would invite those offers for nice fretless basses...already had a very tempting one!
4. bump, I've recently had a bit of a ditty on my basses though I've not been playing them much, I would quite like a fretless and this is my fancy for this week so I would invite offers for trades of fretless as well as the other items stipulated. Chris
5.
I don't know if you guys can remember this - http://webcache.goog...n&ct=clnk&gl=uk
That is an amazing piece of Bubinga! Jesus, what a beauty. Also, Barts on a Warwick, a match made in heaven!
6. I took a few pictures of the ACG today, apologies as I had to take them in my little brother's room, which is a tip, as my basses are still at my mam and dad's house (suffice to say once I'm finished redecorating my new house my amp will be in the front room and my basses hanging on the wall). This is just to demonstrate for another user who had enquired about the balance of the bass and how it sits. In a sense, you can see it's not really unlike a jazz bass here in that the bridge is slightly offset from your body which means it's not a stretch to the first position and it will feel fairly familiar to most bassists pretty quickly. As you can see, the neck also hangs at a handy angle and doesn't dive. I'm currently in two minds as to whether or not I want to get rid of this. A 6 string would suit me for a gig I've had an offer on, but I have been thinking of getting back to fretless playing as well. Having two fretted 4 string basses seems frivolous at the moment when I can't afford to indulge my main passion (cars) because of buying a house. To that end, I certainly can't go spending more money on another bass. But I shall keep the advert up and see what comes along. Anyone with a 6 string or a fretless who fancies a trade, give me a shout.
7. I think the only difference was that the Empathy came with a mid control, a circuit which later popped up in the Stealth basses? Although the Empathy was supposed to be a deluxe version, as evidenced in the wood choices etc etc.
8. No, and I've been at it for ten years!
9. I would change the preamp first mate, MEC's are pretty good pickups! Plus with a Tonepump bass you'll be used to effortless grunt from the bass preamp. Mind you, of all the NS basses I've played over the years (Spector and Warwick), my Ltd Edition 1990 Streamer is still the best of the lot. What a f***ing corker that bass is!
10. This has quite taken my fancy. Just sounds fantastic. I'm not a huge 'tobacco burst' fan but it is growing on me. Yum.
11.
Well, I was sent a link to a special priority early ticket sale thing for Rush tickets that opened at 2pm this afternoon. The link went live at 13.58, I went onto it & already the only seats available were sh*tty ones right at the back. How does this happen? I bet if I go onto Ebay now it will be full of great tickets at ludicrous prices. It really pisses me off.
Indeed. Though the first time I went to see Rush I rang the venue at 9AM when the fanclub tickets went on sale. I wasn't in the club but they had a code required to buy a ticket early. As I recall, it was all over the internet so I rang the venue expecting to be asked to produce the code. I wasn't, and got a ticket near the front with ease.
12.
Damn, I'm an only child! Anyway, slightly off topic, best thing would be to be able to memorise each song and do away with the pages altogether - which I'm totally unable to do! I'm a reader through and through, whether it's notation, or simple chord charts, or even scribbled letters such as A, Bb etc. I loathe tablature, though. Does anyone agree with my pianist friend who believes that musicians are divided into readers and memorisers, and you're either one or the other, but very rarely both?
I tend to be a memoriser. My reading skills aren't fantastic but then I rarely play in situations where I need to exercise them so I have no real desire to improve them. If I am reading, like I do at some jazz fusion shows, I tend to just have a chord chart to hand which I'll use to follow the progression and I'll work off that. As for the issue of turning pages, just get an iPad and turn pages with the sweep of a finger!
13. I think you misunderstand me. I am certainly not saying Rush shows are only attended by long haired rockers. Certainly, those aforementioned long haired rockers are more 'prog spod' than 'Hell's Angel'. I go to Rush shows and to look at me, you'd be hard pressed to guess what kind of music I enjoy yet I would consider Rush my favourite band. No, the point I was making is that whenever you go to a Rush show there are always typical 'rocker' types who go mental for Limelight, Tom Sawyer and Passage to Bangkok, yet don't really seem that interested in anything else Rush do and that they might find a rendition of the entire Signals record to be a bit dull. More to the point, I find them a little out of touch with Rush as a whole because they are mad about the 35 year old prog rock tunes but considered Permanent Waves to be the swansong of the band. In relation to that, a friend of mine went to highschool in the late 70's/early 80's and remembers a time when all the rock kids, who wore denim jackets and had long hair, were mad about Rush. Then Signals came out and they all lost interest. It heralded a new era for the band and attracted a new type of listener. I suppose the pertinent point in my musings here is that the old-skool prog rocker fans never really grew with the band, which is ironic given that many of them attach such worth to the 'progressive' leanings of early Rush efforts.
14.
Even if they did all of Signals (which was rumoured at one point) I couldn't justify those prices.
As cool as this would be, I'm not sure it would be wildly popular with the paying audience. Rush shows are attended by a lot of long haired leather jacket wearers who think Rush disbanded in 1980. I'd love to see all of Signals live though.
15. That was fantastic. What a right hand technique he has! Lovely sounding Drozd too.
16. I remember seeing Mark (Funkyhobbit) play this bass in person at Howard's Bass Place. It sounds fantastic.
17. Not really in the same ballpark IMO. The Streamline has quite a typical Status sound to it, as much a product of the electrics as the design. The Steinberger on the other hand sounds quite different. Not as different as say, a Streamline and a P bass, but enough so that most musicians would be able to tell the difference.
18. I see they're not coming to Newcastle. At least that gets me out of the dilemma of having to decide whether or not to go. I've seen them twice now at £50 a ticket on the past two tours and whilst they were great, I am not sure it's worth me paying that to hear Limelight again, As much as I love them, I'd probably give it a miss this time around.
19. Well John, I'm not sure of the weight but I believe it to be somewhere around 8 pounds. When I pick up my Streamer afterwards, the streamer feels noticeably heavier and the neck a little more divey. Mind you, I still find the Streamer very manageable. The weight of the ACG is surprising, especially for a singlecut. Ideally I'm after a Yamaha TRB or a Thumb. A straight sale would be useful but in terms of the all the money changing hands over my house at the moment £1000 is not a great deal. It's not going to be the difference between me moving in one week and the next, say, so I'd rather keep that money tied up in a nice bass. Something I can hang on the wall when I've moved! I would be open to any trade offers though, I'd give consideration to any item. Give me a PM about the Warwick and Spectors, John!
20.

This is a bit of a stunner as well!
21. Nightshift bump.
22. That sounds very cool, Michael Manring would approve of this piccolo/tuner twiddling stuff!
