1.
Chris - I've put a link up on musicradar for you. There was a bloke who was looking for a status over there a little while ago (he missed mine on ebay because he was out getting pissed!) Good luck.
Thank you very much! I'm thinking of putting this advert up on Statii too. I do find this one to be "warmer" sounding for a Status, since I used to have a series 1 Stealth 6 string which was without a doubt, much more prone to being ultra bright. This one though has such a sweet sound, it's just as comfortable playing along to Level 42 tracks as it is to being thumped with a pick playing The Killers or Big Country tunes! Like I say, I will undoubtedly buy another Status, perhaps a Kingbass next time...I'd best start saving now!
2. Thanks for the offer, they are very nice basses but I'm just looking for true electrics atm!
3. EDIT: Now for sale for £590 with it's hardcase, collected from Newcastle Upon Tyne.
4.
Lovely bass. I have the S1 thru which is effectively the same bass in design and electronics, but with an Ash body and green-burst finish. As with most Statii, they are fantastically versatile instruments that are capable of handling virtually any playing style-although to my ears, this model is a little less "bright" and a lot warmer-sounding than some of the newer stuff. But swapping a Status for a Warwick....sacrilege! Good luck.
Yeah, this one can do the warmer tones, although it still naturally sits in the typically "zingy" Status sound area! And of course, they are very versatile basses, but the Statii core fans are a very select bunch who know what they like from basses, and I must say that I am prone to getting a bit slappity-poppity on this one!
5. Cheers, it is a canny 'un like. The Thumb is another one of my "dream basses" which I'd like to tick off having owned, having already been through Kubicki, Status and Spector in the past few of years!
6. Well, shall we say that my interest in picking up a Warwick Thumb has been decidedly tickled, so I thought I might put this bass up for trade. It's my main bass at the moment, and has been since last year, so I'm not taking this decision lightly, but for the right bass I could be moved to trade it on to a new owner! It's an early 90's Status Matrix bass. It's made of American Walnut with a woven graphite thru-neck and it has a 2 band EQ with Status Hyperactive (or was it Hi Res?) jazz pickups. The hardware is made of brass and the tuners are Status brand. The pictures can describe the bass better than I can, and being a Status, it was built in England in the Status shop. It's in fantastic condition for a bass thats nearly 20 years old. The electronics work brilliantly with a secure jack socket and they are excellently shielded without any hum. The neck is also in fantastic condition without any scratches or dings, the only marks on it are some tiny dings and scratches in the clearcoat finish, as to be expected of a bass with a few years on it. Having said that, it looks as though it's been babied throughout it's life and has certainly not been chucked around at gigs (not a hint buckle rash to be seen!). I've looked after it as though it were my own child, hence me only wanting to move it on for something that really grabs me. Here are a few pictures, a mix from the high quality ones the previous owner sent me, as well as a few I took myself. I can easily take more too, just ask. As I say, I'm particularly interested in Warwick Thumbs atm but I'd be willing to respond to any offers received. I've got a thing for basses that are a bit "interesting", especially if it's a bit of an 80's vibe they're giving off. Basically, feel free to PM me any trade offers you have, or any questions you have about the bass. SOLD and out the door now!/size]
7. The temptation to buy this one is immense but cars are taking up all my funds atm! I don't suppose it's up for trades?
8. Two lovely basses there! I hope they both go to good homes!
9. A very interesting read. Especially the part about going to music school. People go and learn music at college expecting they'll become the next Anthony Jackson and be on call for records for the rest of their working life, or they'll magically end up in some awesome band that will make them rich. Most of the time, I'd say in 99.9% of the cases, the dreams are not realised. You might end up in some periphery job in music, but music schools do not make famous musicians. It's a nice thought, to be able to go and learn music, but at the end of the day, the result is pretty useless in the real world!
10. I used to own this one too, nice little bass!
11.
lovely bass mate, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7X2K3zNypTk hope you had a nice christmas matey x
What a tune. Love that song, and the album! Nice bass Mark has there, a Matrix Empathy model! Had a great Christmas day slapping away on my Matrix and playing along with a few Killers tunes!
12.
You just can't beat a good Status bass. That is so simple but so beautiful. Lucky boy.
For me it is definitely the case that you cannot beat a Status bass! I just keep coming back to them and this time I won't be letting it go! It has such a useable bridge pickup sound, perfect for burpy finger funk!
13.
Ha ha! I have the exact same bass - only difference is it's bolt on and the graphite section running though it finishes just after the neck.
That makes your a Status Matrix Energy then, IIRC. There was that, the Status Matrix Series I+II's and then the top of the line Matrix Empathy model.
14.
Looks like a nice bass. I always thought those carbon-graphite necks looked so cool but never had da noive to go for it with my StingRay.
I hear a lot of people really like Status necks on Stingrays. If I had a Stingray I'd go for one right away. Not just for the sonic benefits but because a graphite neck gives me a peace of mind that wood just doesn't!
15. IMO this constitutes material that will "corrupt and deprave". But it's a lovely looking bass, so feel free to peruse these pictures and add to your Status GAS! A couple of these are taken by the previous owner, but they're nice pictures so I'll include them here! It feels so good to be back in the Status club, long may I stay here! Merry Christmas!
16. Not another bloody rip-off merchant operating via basschat. It's a shame, I've had nothing buy good experiences buying and selling here!
17.
I guess a lot of people can't get over quite how uncool Mark King made them look, though!
Don't be daft, Mark King using high-slung headless basses is about as cool as it gets. Mind you, he also looks as cool as owt with his headed basses. I noticed this year though that he looked like a dwarf when he was playing the Kingbass MK II! I'm not just sure if thats because I first saw him using a headless Kingbass though!
18. Mike bought my Spector Zebop from me. An absolute pleasure to deal with at all stages. Very helpful (my first sale by bank transfer!), with excellent communication. I mean, he let me ring him at 11PM to discuss the sale! I cannot say more than that I wholeheartedly recommend Mike as a top bloke to do business with.
19. Glad to see the bass has made it out of his hands. Just for everyone giving it the "he's 19, he will learn" stuff, to hell with that. I'm not much older, and was a student myself once. I've done loads of buying and selling here and met loads of good guys doing so. I just sold my Spector this week, the nicest bass i have ever played. It's a lot to give up, but not for a second did I think about ripping off the guy who bought it. Being young is no excuse for a lack of moral fibre. Also, with regards to the money, Jake, get a job, grow a pair and give these people back their money. Lord knows they don't work hard to pay for your mistakes. I think throughout this episode you've shown yourself to be a cowardly little cretin, and your "apology" was a last ditch at not getting collared by the law. I hope one day you will really appreciate the grief you have caused.
20.
Ooh, bit anti-French here. No-one seems to have mentioned Noguera basses (exceptional and great value) or Alain Caron. Don't know many Brit players that could could cope with a Mike Stern tour. Before anyone replys to tell me he doesn't count as he's French Canadian, they still class him as a French national treasure here.
Was gonna say, Referee, he's Canadian!
21. Wish I could afford your bass, I'd be over in a shot to give it a go! But if you ever need a third party review to assure potential buyers that it's a real winner...
22. A lot of bumps here...this should be a fast mover! Great price, amazing bass! That top is just lush!
23. Fantastic looking bass you have there! Which part of Newcastle are you in?
24. As of arrangements made tonight, this bass is SOLD pending payment. Thanks to everyone who got in contact about it! When the bass is sold+shipped, this thread will receive one more update, notifying it's closure.
