1. Lovely through neck Warwick Corvette FNA 5 string with double active humbucker pickups. Bubinga body, maple neck, rosewood fingerboard and black hardware. Replacing with 4 string bass - would consider trades for 4 string Fender Jazz
2. I'll be really sorry to see this go, but I just don't play it anymore and it deserves to get played! I had this custom made from Overwater about 4 years ago and it's literally in perfect condition - a real thing of beauty. The top is a burle maple and has loads of character, bolt-on neck with a 5-piece neck (wenge with maple stringers so it's sort of striped, see pics). Bound maple neck with maple headstock, black hardware. Maple pick up covers. Also has BOTH 1/4" jack AND XLR output as well which has occasionally been handy to DI the bass straight from the guitar. I paid exactly £2,740 for this and reckon £1,500 is a fair asking price as it's mint, but will take the highest offer. Also have a hard case to go with it as well. The sound of this bass is pretty bright and springing with a punchy mid and a present (but not overly growling) bottom end. Very even tone throughout and sounds good on a record. Photos don't do full justice - it's a beautiful guitar! A couple have asked about specs, so have copied the order form below: Perception Pro-Deluxe Instrument Type: 5 Number of strings: 35” 24 fret Scale Length: Wenge with 2 wide maple stringers Neck: Maple (match f’board) Head Veneer: 19mm String Spacing: Figured maple Fingerboard type: Fretted Fretted/fretless: Yes - Maple Binding: 3, 5, 7, 12, 15, 17, 19, 21, 24 (standard I think) Position Markers: Rounded ‘C’ Shape Profiling: Body: Burl curly spalted maple Top: American white ash Back: 1mm black-dyed maple Veneers: Electronics/EQ : OW 5 - black Pickup type: Bridge p/u – Progress . 3.
Hi Neil, Are you sure that's the model number? Google doesn't seem to know anything about it, which is unusual. Ta, Stuee
Hi Stuee That's what it says on the label in the sound hole - I will see if I can find it on Google and update accordingly if I find I've made an error... N
4. Bit sad to be selling this - it's actually a really lovely bass, but I have a double bass now and just although they're hardly the same thing, I've found I just don't use this anymore. It's an electro-acoustic and sounds good plugged in - I use a MarkBass 2 x10 combo and it sounds great through that with none of the humming you can get from such instruments. It's a fisherman pickup rather than a mic - has a very clear and bright sound, sounds amazing with new strings (a decent set of which will be about £30 and although the strings on it are still fine, you'd need a new set to really ge tthe best out of it). I've gigged with this, used it on records and just jammed at BBQs etc - great to have and useful if you can't always practice with the amp on. It's in very good condition, has always been kept in the case when not in use - no damage to report. Tried to take pics of some of the details - the little mountain on the sound hole etc. (also repeated on 12th fret as you may be able to see in the picture). I'm based in SE London/Kent area (Beckenham) and although collection preferred, I can drop it round to you if you're nearish. Otherwise it could be couriered (from memory that costs about £30-40 and that's up to you.) Any questions, drop me a note Guide price would be anything fair North of £100
5. Apologies - here are some pictures of the actal guitar and the neck. To answer thekey question, I'd entertain offers around the £200 mark. The actual defretting cost me npt much less than that so I think that's a fair starting price. As I say, it's a lovely guitart but pointless for me as I just don't play it. Welcome to email me for more questions, will send my number if you'd rather talk. Thanks Neil
6. Ibanez Ergodne EBD600 for sale - really like this bass, but found I'm not really using it so selling it seems a good option now. Plus it means I can buy another bass without the fun police kicking off about having another guitar in the house taking up space. I've had this bass for a while and it's always done my proud - been surprised by the tonal diversity considering the weight (and the fact it's made out of plastic). I had it converted into a fretless about a year or two ago and it plays really nicely. Trouble is, I don't really play four string anymore, I'm not a great fretless player to say the least and the gimmickyness has worn off. I've got an electric double bass which can give me some of the same tricks and dont' need both. Just putting it up for the time being to see if anyone would be interested in taking it off my hands. It's in great nic, everything works and even has new (flatwound) strings. Welcome to come and give it a twang before exchanging goods for money - I'm the SE London/Kent area. Will post it out if you're further out and happy to take my word for it. Can and will send snaps if you're potentially interested, so get in touch through here. Thanks Neil
7. Warwick Corvette FNA Jazzman 5 for sale - great guitar. Swamp ash body, flamed maple top, wenge neck. I paid about £1,100 for this about 4 years ago. I've used it for 4 years of function work, so it's had a fair bit of use but I've always done my best to look after it. There are a few grazes/marks as you might expect - eg. where I rest my thumb on the jazz p/u it's indented a bit and there are scratches on the back where I've worn a belt. I think it adds character - it still looks great. The 2 close-up pictures show the extent of any marking - these could be cleaned up quite easily, I just haven't done it. Sound-wise, I've found it be great for what I use it for. It has a definite growl, but you can get a richer, warmer sound from it too. It's got a healthy punch to the mid (+ a 3-band EQ) and throat in the bottom. The treble is defined and clear. It's a pretty versatile beast. I'm selling this because I'm about to receive my new Overwater which should be done by the end of the month. The wood choices are pretty similar and as much as I love the Warwick I can't see myself playing it once it arrives (plus the Overwater has cost a small fortune, but worth it I'm told). I'm happy to discuss offers on this, but realistically would be looking to sell around the £650 mark. Get in touch if you're interested. Needless to say, you're welcome to come and give it a twang before putting in an offer. I'm near Bromley in Kent and would prefer collection but can drop if you're near and don't have wheels or arrange delivery somehow - will cross that bridge as and when... Oh yes - I almost forgot, I'll also chuck in a hard case for it too = ). I'll post a picture up once I've taken one/email me and I'll send you one. Get in touch! Neil
8.
Hi I love my Overwater Progress and I'm going to have a Perception fretless 5 made for me. if you want to come and try my one you are welcome to pop over. It's a good time to order one to as they are knocking half the price off of the cost of any upgrades. R.
That's very good of you - looks like we're in the same sort of area. I'm in Farnborough in Kent, whereabouts are you based?
9. Has anyone had any experience of having an Overwater bass made? They look beautiful and the chap who makes them is great and seems very passionate and knowledgable, but I just don't know much about them. I'm looking at having a bass made (not neccessarily an Overwater). I'm also interested in Hill basses, think they're a US outfit - Stefan from DMB is playing these now and I love the tone he gets on the records. Found some sort of website (http://www.hillguitars.com/) but no phone number, email contact or anything. Does anyone know anything about these? Otherwise, any other suggestions? Want something with throat and a growl but liking the idea of steering away from mainstream... Any suggestions appreciated!
10.
Whereabouts are you based? I ask because I have a maple necked NT Streamer (ebony board) with birds eye maple body, you could have tried this to get an idea of different woods. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...arwick+streamer
That's good of you,thanks-think we're too far apart though-I'm just south of London.how would you describe the sound though?
11.
First of all, I'll tell you right now that even with typical Thumb pickup placement, this is not going to sound like a "normal" thumb bass. The throaty, powerful midrange of the Thumb BO comes from the ovangkol body and the wenge or ovangkol neck. Similarly, the Bubinga of the NT gives you some midrange pop but not as much as the BO has... I'd expect given your wood choices that the top end will sparkle a little more and there will be less of a prounced, characteristic midrange. Did Warwick not advise you on this when you called them?
Thanks for advice, appreciate it. Bit stuck with this as I'm after something light, but with rich throaty bass, punchy pit and plinky full top end. I've been told before that the maple neck should brighten up the sound, but would it be at the cost of the growl? Warwick has so many beautiful looking woods available I guess it's easy to get carried away with asthetics (also important though I think!) Is the top or the body wood more important? My communication with Warwick in the end was through a distributor rather than direct so haven't had the benefit of their advice yet, any extra input is appreciated (although I realise every instrument is different). I suppose my questions are: Can you get throat from a maple neck? Can you get a lightweight bass with a defined, clear but powerful bottom end? Which parts have the greatest influence on the overall sounds if any?
12. The FNA Jazzman has been great for me - it's not heavy, it's got some great tone and a bit of punch and warmth too. I found the top end to be a bit thin, other than that I can't find much fault with it for what I use it for. To be honest, I just fancied getting some new gear and have a bit more money to play with now than I did back when I bought the FNA so fancied the Thumb or the Fender. Looking at the posts on here, I've decided that the Thumb is the way to go. Since I made my first post, I've put a call into Warwick to find out about custom models and I'm looking at a Thumb5 with a maple body and neck+fingerboard and Indian apple wood top. Mainly because I want something unique which is really mine. I've chosen these woods for weight and asthetics mainly (the 'Tineo' looks lovely) - not too au fait with the sound characteristics. Anyone got any advice with this sort of thing? Also, Thumb owners - is it worth getting the 3 band EQ option or is this a waste of time? I use all 3 bands on the FNA and like to be able to control the mid from the guitar. Having said this, presumably there's a reason it comes with a 2-band? Any advice welcome! Will post pictures once I've got it. = ) Neil
13. Thanks Dan, that's helpful. I haven't had much experience with Fender, but I know where I am with a Warwick and let's face it they're always beautiful instruments and don't have that machine-assembled feel. Not heard of the the CT Streamer so just looked it up - not sure I could pull it off but it looks incredible! Ideally I don't want to go near the budget, but at the same time I don't want to find myself wanting something more in another few years. The Thumb looks like a sensible choice for punch, growl and tonal variety. Thanks for the info on the FNA too, once I've decided on the new bass it'll find its way either on here or on eBay... All the best Neil
Hey, Im personally always going to go for Warwick. I hate Fenders, dont like the feel especially. They sound good but Ive always prefered Warwick. A good friend has a Steamer Stage II CT and its a full blown tone monster!!! I feel they have far more versatility than fenders but try both, you have a huge budget so be as picky as you can. A 5 string will get you extra versatility. But try both!! Guitarguitar in Newcastle has a Warwick Jazzman 5 string for sale second hand for £699 in reasonable condition. Hope this helps Dan
14. Okay, so I've actually got 2 questions. Firstly, I'm looking at buying a new bass at the moment and leaning towards one of 2 very different beasts. I mainly play in function bands and use my bass to play all different styles, so I need something which is tonally versatile. However, I'm also looking for something which is a bit distincitive too. I like a punchy, throaty sound and so am leaning towards the Warwick Thumb 5 at the moment. I also really love the sound (and look) of the old Fender Jazz basses, and like the idea of the MM signature 5. I've heard that these are a bit of a one-trick pony and that without all the modulators, compressors and effects they're left a little wanting. Anyone played both these basses? Anyone got any other suggestions? Don't really want to go too much about the £2k mark and definitely not above £2.5k. That brings me on to my 2nd question... I've got a Warwick FNA Jazzman 5 at the moment - about 5 years old, been well played and has a few marks on it. Everything else is fine with it. How much is this worth now? I think I paid about £1,200 for it. It's flamed maple body, wenge fingerboard, gold hardware, BO neck. Any thoughts welcome, thanks!
