  1. I’m assuming if the OP didn’t know what it was, they got it for a good price.
  2. Depends what you mean as pro? Not many make it as artists/ famous bands. I wanted to be a session musician until I really understood what that meant, travelling the length of the country to play a wedding, corporate gig, Christmas party ect. All for a moderate living and unhealthy work/ life balance. Then I found that a lot of bands out there require BVs and there’s no way anyone would pay for that from me.
  3. Jam nights are a different to regular gigs as it often requires; learning a song as you play, following cues from other players, and improvisation. Ive embarrassed myself plenty of times but I came away each time knowing what I need to work on if I go again.
  4. There’s a thread in bass guitars
  5. Judging by the fact it’s USD I assume OP is in the states where Wal prices are even higher than UK (if Talkbass is anything to go on). Can you get a 70s Fender Jazz for that price in the US? I think that’d be my shout or a used Ken smith if one came up in budget.
  6. I thought white finishes tended to yellow but the colour under the bridge ashtray suggests it has faded instead
  7. I once asked to try a gorgeous MM stingray in a shop in Barcelona…. I got a firm no! Pity because I ended up buying the same model/ colour in the UK and didn’t sound as good as it had looked in the Catalan sunshine.
  8. Also the roots have been house band for Jimmy Fallon since 2009 which I believe is very popular in the states. While Pino is in my book an icon, he’s not widely known beyond musician circles. I would assume by his demeanour and lack of media, that is the way he likes it.
  9. Parents seem to willingly spend £500 on a PlayStation or £1k+ on a phone so who knows these days.
  10. I would expect a store with such a big online presence to expect a % of returns and the best way to keep consumer confidence is to not fuss over them. If they can’t handle that, don’t sell online. I’ve not had any experience from there since 2009 when I bought an interface. Funnily enough I was advised against the Focurite because this other one would last forever. They weren’t wrong, it’s still going strong!
  11. Two things here. Pino is notoriously interview shy and isn’t the type to run off story’s like a Guy Pratt. So as a podcast host you would have to fill in the space. Secondly, the host is Questlove who is much more famous than Pino. To hear both share their experiences together was great. The bass questions were tedious but apart from that I thought it was engaging.
  12. It’s all in the fingers as they say! I adjust my tone sometimes just because my ears are after something slightly tweaked in that moment, or my strings have deadened slightly.
  13. Alto Saxophone for sale. It is engraved with Montreux Series II. Had this as a beginner many years ago. Comes with brown case, used mouthpiece, strap, some new reeds, cork grease and a pad saver. Cash on collection from Alsager
  14. I managed to have a lesson with Steve Lawson once (priceless experience) and he played one. You could just see how effortless it was for him to play and it had incredible clarity in each note. I’ve always been put off by the scale length though. I’m on 34” 5 string again and it’s just about comfortable but would probably prefer 33”.
  15. Those prices are sickening. I hope some of them will be played again some day.
  16. Unfortunately I wasn’t the lucky bugger who won £60 odd million last night so I’m still in.
  17. Worse than not having business awareness, it seems from Eddies story he doesn’t have the technical knowledge of making a bass that functions. If you see on Facebook the detailed drawings that Overwater completed for their hollow body design, you can see why there aren’t many that can do it well.
  18. Are basses limited to one each? 😂 there’s some on this forum alone with 20+. If I had a £1 mil bonus I would take home a lot of Andy Baxter’s stock.
  19. Why not talk about top 1%? I’m sure out of 600k, some of them play bass too. The other issue with salary averages is it doesn’t capture all wealth. There are unknowns with huge sums of assets (onshore and offshore) and regular dividends from investments that claim little to no salary. Not all of these will be captured in data/ statistics.
  20. See the post above. I should probably rephrase to; using median average the gap between the highest salary and the average salary would show a higher increase in inequality compared to other averages. I know what I mean anyway 😂
