  1. Haha I wish I was.... I’ve not had a NBD in over 3 years, I wouldn’t recommend this diet but the overwater does help with the pain.
  2. Exactly, I think it was £200 extra for that flame top. Not a lot really considering basic price was £2.5k
  3. I’m on my second. My first was an early J5 in white with tort, don’t have a photo of that anymore though. Astonishing B string but didn’t get on with 35” scale having only had 34” before. It had Kent Armstrong pups, a John east pre and all hip shot hardware. My current is a J4 fretless with the passive buffer and Overwater pups. The only thing I don’t really like is the Overwater bridge. It’s not as easy to change strings on as a hip shot B style. With Overwater you have the opportunity for something you can’t get with Fender and they’ll do any colour scheme. Also if you can it’s not that much more for fancy woods and they have a great selection.
  4. Same as 2020 and 2019, a Ken Smith Black Tiger. I have a feeling this could be a long wait though. Only other bass I’d like again is a Warwick NT Thumb bass. Really regret selling mine although I had no choice.
  5. Lovely, is ‘91 quite early for a stingray 5. I thought they were introduced only in ‘88.
  6. Can’t compare with Elixirs because I haven’t used them in ages, but I preferred the brightness and warmth of the standard MB nickels compared to the coated ones. Obviously coated ones have lasted longer but I’m not sure that’s worth the sacrifice in tone.
  7. Nice, always thought mahogany would be quite a heavy wood though compared to alder or ash.
  8. This is what I was going to say. Also depends if the songs are rearranged or played in the same format they were recorded. Of course for YouTube it depends if you’re using it for promotion, teaching or just for fun. I like learning songs note for note because I pickup the nuances. I mostly read books if I have it or transcribe it myself. And not gigging means I don’t need to learn 100 songs ready to be played at any time.
  9. Nice to see you haven’t been put off by the Rocco Palladino thread 😂 it’s cool you’re still been able to play together (of sorts)
  10. He said ‘62 was the best year for his fenders and now it’s all I can think about 😂
  11. I now have the Geddy book and my god it’s a GAS inducer.
  12. Tried one of these at PMT and it not only looked the part but played superbly. GLWTS
  13. Yet IME, the extra inch makes little difference to the sound but much more difficult for my short arms to stretch.
  14. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCs5yDeiOgkyRZGZGphlSbIw There’s loads of videos that it features in here - natural body, rosewood fretboard, double p p/u’s.
  15. Lee sklars’ Franken P. Could just be him but it does sound good in his videos.
  16. You’ve got more chance of getting macs from colleges who specialise in arts. Might be worth contacting a few locally
  17. They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder. In this case I think it can only be in the hands of the blind.
  18. I think this bass belongs in the “what puts you off” thread.
  19. Gutted I could only watch a bit of it due to it starting late. I really hope it gets put online in full because the bits I did hear were inspiring. Hard not to be inspired by that lot but especially when discussing the greatest.
  20. Well it’s just vibrations isn’t it? So the more the wood is vibrating the better the sustain. Depends on; hardware that has contact with the strings, wood choice, construction, and the strings themselves. I reckon plenty of decent records have been made with a bass that doesn’t sustain but has other qualities or characteristics.
  21. Depends on what you want to achieve and the music you play. My fretless will sustain for days but I can also successfully play staccato finger funk on it no problem..... It’s all in the fingers.
  22. Yeh looks right: https://reverb.com/item/14713379-fender-precision-bass-special-2002-black These seem to be passive but the ones I remember were active.
  23. Pretty sure these were part of the catalogue when I got my 60th anniversary model in 2006. They were available in black but I’m pretty sure it was gloss.
  24. Teal blue/ green Trans finish on a quilted maple body. Can’t find pics though but definitely seen them about
