I didnt try any of my current basses before i bought them, to save money more than anything. And the ones i have now are perfect. Although iv had a few crappy basses, one being an epiphone thunderbird, it got moved on rather quick. Also an american deluxe jazz bass, just didnt deliver anything near its value and the build quality was shoddy. It was a 2000 model

Does anyone own either of these? Im confused as to what the differences are and which to get.... Also unsure if the fake book is bass parts or piano charts of his compositions

Just knock the bridge up a bit, sorted out the action on my DB

just out of interest does anyone know how they did this? it cant have been using a gate, and i thought everything was recorded onto tape.

My advice would be to do your homework on what shops there are and where they are, print out detailed maps. The size of florida really shocked me and music shops there seemed well hidden in Miami and Naples. The other thing is use the exchange rate to calculate what basses are cheaper there than here, because some come out to the same price and some will save you roughly £2-300. If you go to the bass central in orlando please check out the Elrick basses and write a review because magazines across the pond have rated them very highly.

Musicman20 your not alone. Iv played on 3 different skylines, the 55-02, darryl jones 5 and a joe osborn 5. They all had a few areas where the quality wasnt great, such as; a tuning peg was a little loose and finish on the body was a little rough. Compared to musicman where i have seen just 1 bad, i don't see how with such poor quality control lakland can charge the same amount. to the OP: iv spent a long time trying out lots of basses and i know what i like and dont like so it might be worth investing some time into touring shops and testing some out. Or compare the specs of the basses you like that you own to other 5 string models and getting something similar.

Maybe they just get so many customers they tend to only do work for people they know wont give them hassle

Iv got my 3 main basses and then an old jackson bass under a bed in my parents home. Its not being used and probably wont be for a while, despite it having an amazing tone. But i just don't have the same connection that i share with the others so i think maybe one day itl be out the door

Thats the brightest "origonal" sonic blue i have ever seen. I think either the body has been refinished or the scratchplate has been changed. From the state of that blue i think its a refin. Anything under £1000 would be good for a 70's p bass refin or not

This isnt gear, but when you see print outs of ultimate guitar tabs lying around. Gear wise, if the guitarist has a dean or jackson and the bassist has a matching shape, i know its not for me

A good way to get a similar sound to thriller without using pedals is plucking next to the bridge, behind the MM pickup. It gives a very thin and sharp tone. I play it like this with my EQ flat. I dont know what is used but id imagine its some sort of envelope filter.

It could have just been kept in a case for most of the time. I know my dad is mad keen on keeping all of his guitars in mint condition although none of his are that old. If you are seriously interested i would take an expert to see the bass and let him take it apart and find out whats happened. You can usually tell a refinish by the neck pocket. Or you could ask the guy to meet you in london and get a free valuation from a shop there. £2000 is still a lot of money so i would want to know exactly what is happening. Also i would want it to sound nice, i played a 63 p bass and it was awful

Iv recently been teaching myself and i think the easiest way to make scales fun is by challenging them to play it around the cycle of fourths or fifths or playing them over chord progressions. Then once they have a small grip on what makes a scale (intervals) i went through songs that they like to show them how the bassline was constructed using intervals from the chords/ scales and how it all fits into theory. This will really help them to improvise as they will be able to take ideas form songs and put their own spin on it. I think this is a much easier process if you know everything yourself although my dad didnt know any theory and picked it up through books ect, just to help his teaching so it can be done.
