1.
I like the idea of making 2 4X10s from your 8X10 - then you can have the flexibility of 2 4X10s and still have the drivers you want. So the GT200 isn't quite the same as your old GT200, but it's closer than anything else is going to be, isn't it? A GT200 and 2 Matamp 4X10s would make me a very happy bunny indeed and must surely go some way to cheering you up a little bit..? As for colour, have you considered blue? I saw a new Hiwatt in blue a while back that I thought was very groovy...
If you want to do that, go 4 2x10s. OK, effectively the same but easier to carry, take only the ones you need for the gig... and visually it looks stunning because there are so many cabs! Again, depends upon budget - but you would have a very recognisable rig. I'm not a Matamp guy by any means but I know of your (missing) rig... and I would get to know of a 4 210 Matamp rig!
2.
There is a lovely looking Mesa Boogie Buster 200 1x15 combo for sale, but really Matamp have looked after me over the years. And please don't joke, it will not be well received, thanks.
I feel your pain man. Stick with the Matamp. Anything else will always be second best in your mind. Take your time though, think about what you really want... we can't (and shouldn't) decide for you!
3.
Actually selling a Shure PSM200 and 2 x Line 6 G30's want to go to a more simple setup as it is.
I know. Sell them, then buy some really nice in-ears. The PSM200 really doesn't cut it.
4. Sounds like you've got a plan. GT200 and 410 - everything else is surplus to requirements. Nice to have yes but ultimately a pain in the arse to move. If you got any money left from selling your cab, invest in some nice cables, or maybe wireless systems, both for your bass and your ears. PS - white cabs looks ace. Not sure how white they'll stay.
5. How weird - was going to suggest Use Me!
6. OMG, OMG, OMG. No No NO NO! You can't put your speaker cabs like that. Vertical speakers please, not horizontal! It's like crossing the streams. Everybody will perish!! Seriously.
7. I have better stage presence than bar presence. I can never get served... I find that I am better with a wireless system now, I tend to go for walkies and ham it up with different band people across the stage.
8. Home run. PS 2:50 defo NSFW
9. Lighter fluid. It'll clean that stuff right off and is safe for the wood as it evaporates quickly.
10. In fact - check this http://basschat.co.uk/topic/49897-how-to-shim-a-neck/
11. Have you taken the neck off? There may be a shim in there - it sounds like ultimately to get the action where you want, you may need to shim anyway. Have a look at the sticky which I think is at the top of this section.
12. When I played in an originals acoustic outfit, I turned up to a few venues with just a DI box. Makes life so much easier!
13. Anyway. Go to the gb guitars website and pick any of say, Stuart Clayton's demos and tell me straight that they lack zing.
14. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.... Ha
15. Not really - I spoke to him about it in detail. The problem is, he hasn't got his setup industrialised enough to push out the number of basses to satisfy what the demand would have been. He still gets people now who order because Mark played one though.
16. There you go, worth a shot.
17. Got no contacts up in Scotland I'm afread :/
18.
Mark ended up switching to GB basses quite quickly. I think he was going through a bad time then, as the GB basses sounded absolutely shocking as well. The first Level 42 record/DVD I got was the Ohne Filter show. Dear me, his bass sounded f***ing crap there. Flat as f*** tonally. Even the red bass he got out for Mr Pink sounded hopeless. He ended up going back to Status; a smart move as Level 42 took off again soon after and he had left those dire basses buried in the sands of time.
The GB basses were introduced to Mark via Boon who is a personal friend of Bernie's. Tonally, it's all subjective - to me, Mark had the best sound he has ever had through the GBs. Remember, he was going through Crashdown back then - more than a hurdle to overcome! I believe Mark was actually a big fan of the GBs up to the point where Bernie took them back - Mark even said to Bernie, in front of me at the LBGS, "Maybe if you hadn't sold my favourite blue bass we'd still be in f*king business!"
19.
They vary a lot in weight - I have two J's and both are pretty 'standard' Fender J weight
I thought so too. All the Alleva J's have tried I thought were comparable to any other J in terms of weight. They didn't strike me as heavy. As for the Fender, I'm still not sold on that B. It just seems overly floppy... which is a shame, cos I'd quite like a trad Fender J (albeit 5 string).
20. Animals. *sigh* Hope you and Alex gets stuff sorted quickly.
21. Aw come on, for approx 700, you want one of these bad boys - (Gretsch G5422TDCG)
22. Kemper profiling amp - any good for bass? I really like the idea - just haven't tried it out in practice. My primary band are all pretty much sold on in-ears and most of us now use them, the idea of carrying around a small powered cab with a Kemper really appeals, especially if it's super lightweight compared to my TD650 (shall have to check the specs). I must admit, I do like a silent stage, although I am not sure I would want to give up my valve amp if I was a guitarist. The first band I saw who completely went silent stage was Wheatus - and to be fair, they sounded excellent.
23.
Best P bass I've ever played was an Alleva Copollo KPB. The 5's are pretty rare and there's a long wait for a new one - of course, one reason is because Jimmy can sell every one he can make!
If the P is comparable to their J basses, I can well believe it!
24. So what now? You going back to the Mesa?
25.
You can get a set of pickups and pre-amp provided that you are also prepared to pay for the Wal bass they are attached to. Prices start at £3650. Which is how it should be. They are the USP of a Wal so why dilute the brand value by selling them separately.
Agree.
