1. From what I've read, it looks like the SWR aural enhancer doesn't operate like a traditional aural exciter (which I thought it may have been) but more like a preshape?
2. Behringer P1 is a belt worn headphone amplifier. The advantage is that the volume control is readily available at your belt. Behringer HA400 is a 4 channel headphone amplifier - you can run one mix to four sets of headphones. Probably not what you want. Behringer MA400 is a single channel headphone amplifier with inbuilt blend for one mic (or something else input). For example, you could plug your bass into it and blend it with another mix that is coming from the desk's aux and you could independently add or subtract the bass to the mix via the control knob on the device. Probably not what you want either. With a lot of the Stereo headphone amps, such as the HPA, you can sum the input to mono - e.g. if you plug one aux out to say, just the left input of the HPA and engage the mono button - it will replicate the same signal to the right ear. So by running one aux out into it, you could get a mono mix into both ears from just one aux. 215s vs 315s - the latter develops much more bass... but I'd be saving for the UE900s mentioned above... and if you get serious about IEMs, you've got a decent set of donor quads that you can put into moulds if you wanted to. The difference between single driver armatures and a set of quad armatures in an earpiece is more than night and day. I believe that you will think that IEMs are crap if you don't invest enough in the ear pieces - I firmly believe you need the headroom of a dual low in a quad setup. I did a gig at the weekend on my ACS (mix from an X32) and I was craving my JH Audios as the lows just weren't there - and if you tried to push it, they went into distortion. My advice would be go wired with the HPA (with cable extension) or Behringer P1 and invest in the UE900s from the link above. Then concentrate on getting the best out of the XR18 monitor mixes - this will take you some time and will improve with each gig (think tweaks in the eq, compression and fx). This will give you an awesome setup for probably less that 250 quid - less than the cost of a decent wedge - but imho, infinitely more portable and better sounding. For an idea of how crazy you can get - I digitally split guitars and bass into two channels so that I can eq those instruments independently for inears and front of house. You'll find that what you want in your ears and front of house are completely different and the global EQ which is on the aux send is not always enough to get the mixes in your ears sounding as good as they could be. With inears, you don't have to compromise on your mix. You can put as much importance on your inears mix as your front of house mix.
3. Read this thread. There's lots of mentions of headphone amps.
4.
How does the wired solution work? Still plug a unit into an aux channel? then you are wired from the unit to your ears rather than from a receiver?
Pretty much - but you'd typically go AUX -> HEADPHONE AMP -> CABLE EXTENSION -> IN EARS
5.
I have made a few in the past using stereo mic cable but this is a bit of a compromise for the tone purists as it's not proper instrument cable. Saying that no-one has complained of poor frequency response so I guess they are all happy with them. I did find a cable that had an instrument core and a stereo monitor core but it is quite expensive to get 100m and since the Referendum the pound has dropped and now it's very expensive, so it's back to genuine stereo mic cable.
For everything else, there are cable ties.
6.
Some one used to sell this illegal brand through Amazon last year and I reported them to Offcom. Apparently Offcom regularly check the likes of Ebay etc for illegal wireless equipment offered for sale in the UK and get the adverts stopped and products confiscated. I would steer very clear of cheap illegal wireless kit.
Couldn't agree more. Go for OBBMs wired solution if you are on a budget! (You do do the instrument and iem combo cable don't you?)
7.
# Yeh i absolutely love the X-Air 18. Very pleased we went digital!! Thanks for that link. Illegal operating frequency?!? How is this policed? Is it likely to cause problems if we went for that unit for example?
http://stakeholders.ofcom.org.uk/enforcement/spectrum-enforcement/law You'd be transmitting in a TV broadcast area of the spectrum... I wouldn't like to say if you would have any problems or not...
8. This is them - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Takstar-WPM-100-In-Ear-Wireless-Monitor-System-Transmitter-3pcs-Receiver-UK-/252417586719 - but the operating frequency range is illegal for the UK. A bit naughty to market them as "UK" in the title.
9. Gear4Music IEMs are no more - although they were just generic rebranded Chinese efforts. You can find those - but finding them for channel 70 may be a bit difficult. I can have a look for you. For wireless- yes, you are correct - earphones into receiver pack, usually clipped onto you. X-Air18 - well, thats a good starting point!
10. DI Is a probably the wrong term here. You want a preamp or EQ where you can artificially add back in the low end that you feel that you are losing... can't you crank if up on your bass amp?
11. Edit - oops. Thought you were talking about a cab.
12. I've always gone with SKB - no issues. When buying a rack bag though, make sure the rack rails are recessed enough to protect any knobs etc that may be on the front of your amp (The SKBs are fine for my needs, don't know about other brands).
13. Did you ever get your inears sorted cetera?
14. In the interests of keeping this thread full of helpful information, here's some useful info from the MyMix guys - http://www.mymixaudi...-monitor-mixers - there's a bit of MyMix specific stuff in there - but the concepts are still applicable regardless of how you are getting that final ears mix into your skull.
15.
They bought market share.... SWR did not do D Class very well, as that is where all were heading Fender felt SWR did not do enough to enhance their stable. Stupid, but hey Fender see Fender do.
And the headlite and amplite had so much promise!
16. http://www.orchid-electronics.co.uk/classic_DI.htm Sounds great - just check out the reviews to clarify - and too cheap not to have one anyway.
17.
I read on the t'interweb that Brian Johnson may be able to gig again due to new developments in in-ear monitors. I wonder if he will be welcomed back to AC/DC or if Arsehole Rose will get the gig full time. If it's Rose then I can see why Cliff wants out.
Indeed - https://asiustechnologies.com - Stephen Ambrose - inventor of ADEL which has been licensed to 1964 audio. Stephen is one of the original IEM gurus, having created arguably the first stage IEMs... before Jerry Harvey refined them.
18. A couple of decent full range PA cabs sounds like where you want to be. RCF 745 is my current fave rave.
19. That's a great article that really puts forward the concept concisely and clearly. For the OP - it may be worth going for some Subs in the short term - but if you are looking to invest in a decent PA, I would forget this setup altogether, save your money and start with some killer tops. Something like some RCF 735/745 will serve you well - and you may find they actually develop enough bass for you to reconsider the need for if you even need to even start carrying around subs. I know some guys who are using these speakers with great results and the sound is certainly not lacking in bass. Obviously, the larger the venue you go, the more bottom end you are going to need - and thats when you need to start adding more speakers, and/or ideally subs. An affordable digital desk - something like a XR18, DL804, Ui... will help you get the most out of those speakers too. Gating and compressing (especially on the kick for example), will give you a lot more headroom for starters and help you get even more out of your cabs. Skimping on PA - especially cabs - is a false economy. Good luck!
20. So we've had a song instantly recognisable from the first chord - A Hard Days Night... Instantly recognisably song from the last chord...? Bond Theme.
21. Just to clarify, the HPF on the first six channels on the XR684 is set at 80Hz - so that will take a whole world of hurt of your tops. The monitor send is full range and if you have a powered sub, chances are it will have a crossover on it anyway. This means your sub will take care of typically everything sub 100hz. Running the sub off the monitor is only like running a sub off an aux and is far from unusual in the pro world. Just because it's not usual in a pub band doesn't mean it's not a viable solution - in fact, in pro PA it's the preferable solution. By having control of the monitor send you explicitly keep vocals out of the subs which is infinitely more useful at keeping low end rumble out of the subs than running crossovers. (Better that nothing unwanted be present feeding into the subs that doesn't have to be right?)
22.
If you can stretch to this, highly recommended. I have one and love it. The service from Smooth-Hound is first class too.
I would say that this is the way to go now given that Sony appear to have stopped producing their DWZB30GB
23.
here you go, £59.00 all in. https://www.amazon.co.uk/ALESIS-Portable-Wireless-System-Guitar/dp/B00FB6AYOK?ie=UTF8&ascsubtag=450122b975a867ca2e157a92684449b3_S&ref_=dra_a_rv_ff_fx_xx_P2000_1000&tag=dradisplay0bb-21
Be wary of the hard wired cable on the Alesis.
24. You need to set your aux mixes to pre fader instead of post fader.
25. If you don't run a monitor on the existing setup, I would look to go powered for your PA and with the PA you mention above, use the Aux (monitor) feed into a powered sub.
