  1. The lifespan on this sort of stuff is usually dictated by the motor giving up... all the transformer giving up the ghost. I suspect 100,000 is optimistic! It'll probably be dropped or mishandled by some stray toddler that thinks it will be fun to push against the mechanism whilst it's in motion (not that I allow anybody near my stuff on stage). You are probably right though - even my ADJ par cans have differing shades of colour now... but they've seen a lot of use over the last 5 years. They tend to be OK as long as you don't put them too close together! Sync - maybe/maybe not. I'm planning on putting them (if I decide to get more) into an existing DMX system... so I'd hope all syncing would be taken care of there... of course, the motors breaking/slowing down may prove me otherwise! Of course, moving heads is all well and good... but without haze, they just look a little... err... shining a light on that wall... shining a light on that wall... not quite the beam effect we all look for. (And lets face it, how many venues are keen to let us loose with a hazer nowadays?) @Grangur - interesting that mention that you are a lighting designer. Have you any experience of addressable LED strip lighting the exterior of buildings?
  2. In bridge mode that would make it 500 into 8 Ohms? or 250w x 2 at 4 Ohms? Is it truly bridged or is each output putting out a max of 250w? Am I reading the docs wrong - or wouldn't the unit be running overly hot if running bridged @ 4 ohms?
  3. Intrigued enough to have bought 1 - will report back.
  4. Whats the poweramp unit in the TH500? I don't seem to see anything on the icepower website that fits the bill.
  5. I guess at this point we don't mention Br......it??
  6. It's a this point in the script that Scott gets peeved and throws down his (in this case, an excuse for a) bass (without active preamp) in disgust...
  7. I used to put fuel in a drummers car I used to work with to get him to his. Been known to float his rent too. note “used to” that guy can rot for all all I care.
  8. You may want to have a look through this - https://downloads.monoprice.com/files/manuals/612870_Manual_170822.pdf
  9. I'm only here for Scott's video response...
  10. Going by a quick skim through the video, they don't look too bad... especially for that sort of money
  11. I’m guessing the electronics could be PCB based with mounted pots - which would cause a bit of issue if you changed the aspect of the instrument. Dunno why they wouldn’t offer a LH version otherwise.
  12. Nice one. Good to see these projects surfacing!
  13. He has a collection of boutiquey stuff that I know he will not give up. Guitarists for you... always the last to embrace change. Realistically, all I want is a silent amp on stage... and I don't want to hump around a big isolation box to put an amp into either! The Helix just seems to be the obvious fix to be on his pedal board.
  14. Scott Wheeler - not sure of his username on here though. I never really got the signature... but the Streamers - particularly the all white 5er with LEDs... now that's a looker. I think the other ones of note, were the iroquai rug finish one... and the godzilla chrome one with green LEDs. I think I remember reading that he wanted his signature to be a cross between the streamer and a Rick - which is what he was playing at around the same time with Mark Ronson.
  15. How would you guys rate the Helix with drive pedals in front? Do they play nice? I kinda want a HX Stomp for myself... but would quite like to try and convince the guitarist in one of my bands to ditch his amp to help work towards the silent stage I'm aiming to achieve. Thing is, he has a load of pedals that I know he won't give up. I'd like to use the HX for myself... and then try and get him to do a gig or two on it himself... I've used the Helix a fair bit in the past... but never with external pedals.
  16. Oh jeez, were they the last batch of the "imports" ? So what's your move now?
  17. Meanwhile, I've been geeking out over the Wisycom IEMs that have finally hit the UK... Yum. Yum, yum. However... transmitter (2 channels) £4.4k ... and receivers are 1.5k a piece. 7.5k for a pair then.... as opposed to 4.5k for the Shure PSM1000 or the Lectrosonics Duet. Oh well, there goes that pipe dream. All of a sudden, my attention turns back to the LD offerings...
  18. https://www.eventtechnik3000.ch/LD-Systems-U5047-IEM-In-Ear-Monitoring-System £305 worth in Swiss money... https://www.adamhall.com/shop/ad-es/equipos-de-sonido-y-megafonia/monitorizacion/sistema-de-monitorizacion-personal-in-ear/20315/u504.7-iem £300 worth in Euros... So half the price of the PSM300 with the standard pack. With the extra information posted, looks like (from a UK point of view), they are catering for shared mic license ch38... and channel 70 (and also covering off 823-832 - but you'll need a license to run those frequencies legally). Quite a nice looking unit... and if it sounds right too, they should sell a fair few units! Anyway... if you look at - https://www.ld-systems.com/en/in-ear-monitoring/ You can see that LD are certainly gunning for the IEM market with the introduction of things 30x and 50x. Now just to figure out what all the differences are...
  19. Dunno - probably for the same reason it appears on the net as mk2!
  20. Oh wow. Going through Companies House and drawing comments on earnings and directorships... Case of mind your own beeswax.
  21. That's a nice looking piece of kit - and some cool features - I particularly like the low power output option - should help keep the airwaves cleaner and help in the co-ordination of larger wireless deployments. The only thing that stands out for me is the comment - "96 receiver channels are available to provide mono or stereo operation as required." - I'm reading that as fixed selected frequencies ala the Shure PSM300 - which, I think, is what LD are gunning for. The ability to have complete control over the frequencies is a big plus for larger deployments. Keen to hear it... and conversely, know the price point. I'm thinking just under the PSM300... but lets wait and see.
  22. That’s half the fun... its like motoring of yesteryear... you get in the car and you don’t know if you are going to reach your destination... likewise... you don’t know if it’ll make it through to end of the gig without smoke coming out from under the hood.
  23. More traditional stuff here - Bob's also a great artisan. http://www.brookwoodleather.com/
  24. https://www.ethoscustombrands.com/ Chad Little - unbelievable stuff... and takes commissions/customisations
  25. What is it that you are missing? The movement of air... or the volume?
