2. Ok here is my current crop of short scales Left to right Fender modern player jazz , Landing L1 , Squier Mustang Mikey Way with EMG pickup and home made scratch plate , Fender Pawn shop Mustang All fitted with black nylon tape wound flats except the Jazz, that has a set of chrome flats on it
3. Been following this thread for some time now, thought I should share my board Top row is my fake guitar sound into my home built tube amp and VS115 Bottom row into TC BG250-208 and VS112
4. Hey 2x18. Fancy a trade for a nice Landing L1 ? I love red basses
5. http://www.landingbass.com/MODELS.html Lowlandtrees to answers your question " are there any quality short scale basses" YES LOTS. Fender and Gibson for your well known brands, but take a look at Landing bass guitars they are hand made in the USA. I have an L1 pic #9 and #11 on there L1 gallery The link at the top takes you to there web page.
6. I'm a home only player too lol. My neighbours would be happy if I moved I think!!! The TC BG250 208 is a great amp, get one. Get a foot switch too, makes all the difference.
7. the neck feels fast and slick to me, not sticky at all. The finish on the neck is very nice in my opinion, but I do prefer lacquered necks. The look and colour is almost identical to my pawnshop Mustang and MIJ 62 P reissue. Now I have restrung with flats the tone is very flexible and the output is on par with the 62 P. (my rig is TC BG250 208 with Ashdown VS112 extension cab) The amp I tried it though in the shop did nothing for it to be honest. If anyone wants to try one, I'm in Bournemouth
8. Thanks, my red fender bass collection now numbers three and my amps are all red too
9. Now there's a thought, that would make a nice pawnshop model.
10. I have four short scales, love them but still have my P Current line up is Landing L1 Pawn shop Mustang Squier Mikey Way Mustang Fender Modern player jazz short scale (bought on Saturday) Fender MIJ 62 reissue photoflame finish
11. Nice review, I got one on Saturday in Candy red. Pick guard is three ply BWB and in my opinion nice. Build and finish are as good as my Pawn Shop Mustang (also in Candy Red) Set up spot on, not a single buzz or rattle. Fitted Chrome flats, much improved the tone that was previously a bit uhmmmm zingy for my taste. Anyway here is a link to another post with some pics http://basschat.co.uk/topic/240842-fender-modern-player-short-scale-jazz-bass/page__st__30
12. So here she is In glorious candy red Finish is spot on, couldn't find a single blemish. As you can see, pick guard is 3 ply BWB and well made. Not a single buzz or rattle to be heard . Flat wound chromes fitted P pickup at 33% J at 70% tone at 70% to roll off a little of the treble, sounds lovely to me
13. +1 for the Washburn AB series of basses, I had one of these for some time. The bridge takes standard bass strings and the sound hole is anti feedback. I think I saw one in PMT Oxford at the weekend (used) worth a look.
14. fitted a set of long scales as I had them anyway, work just fine. Have done this many times before, in fact shorts are often to short and some medium strings I got were to short for my mustangs. What short scale basses have you got ?
15. The flats have given her a bit more thump and taken away the the zing from the top end = smother growl , very nice to my ear anyway. strings are D'Adario super light gauge. 40 60 75 95
16. I got one in candy apple red yesterday. Fitted a set of flats on her today. This is a very very nice bass. Finish is just as good as my pawn shop mustang and my mij 62 reissue P, both twice the price. Fresh out of the box and the only thing I had to do was tune her up, realy feels nice to play .
17. Loving mine with the flats on. Cant believe these are only £300 ! How can you say no at this price ????
18. Got myself one of these in candy apple red yesterday from PMT in Oxford. Finish is absolutely spot on, just as good as my pawn shop mustang (candy apple red ) Neck feels real nice too. Tone wise gives a smooth p sound and the jass bridge has a nice bark to it all though I would say it don't have as much output as the P pickup. Little to bright and ringey for my taste with the roundwounds on (all my basses have tapes or flats on) will be putting a set of D'Addario super light chromes on her today. Really like the high mass bridge too, might have to see if I can get one for my 62 P.
19. I would recommend looking at small bodied basses, Mustangs are a great bass (short scale so easy transition for guitarist) or you could look for a stienberg spirit headless (almost no body at all) and very p bass sounding . I should never have sold mine !!!!
20. The Ashdown Vs cabs sound great, very under rated
