2. This is the Behringer clone of the Sansamp DI unit from Tech 21. In great condition with only a couple of small scratches. Selling because the battery's run out (only kidding, but it comes without a battery). Blue Aran sell these regularly on eBay for over £30 delivered. So, should we say £15 plus £3 for postage. Should reach you in time for Christmas if you act now. Here's the blurb: "Bass amp modeling direct-recording preamp and DI box all rolled into one! So much more than a mere DI box the BDI21 is also an analog modeling bass preamp/stompbox. Authentic V-TONE modeling technology capable of dialing up big vintage tube tones funky slap sounds crunchy distortions and everything in-between. You'll get a truckload of great amps in a single stomp box from traditional bass amps to modern overdriven amp tones that would typically require a multitude of effects units. Authentic tube emulation circuitry can be mixed with the direct bass signal via blend control. Use presence control for definition and upper harmonics or rely on an ultra-musical 2-band EQ specifically tuned for bass guitars. Use the BDI21 either for direct recording output with tube emulation or as a standard active direct injection box in bypass mode. The output is laid out on '1/4'' TS or balanced gold-plated XLR connectors. A ground lift switch eliminates typical ground loop problems and it runs on a 9 V battery or a DC power supply (not included)."
Hmm... £1200 could buy you all sorts.. including a Fullerton '62RI.
I found one for you on eBay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1982-Fender-Precisio...tem160303286849 £2,350 no less. I'd expect a semi-detached in Barnsley for that much.
 4. bump for a great value bass - and 'cos I played Motherwell town hall in my younger days.
 5.
Lets be honest here, the only people likely to spend that amount of money on a bass guitar are either seasond players or people who are well aware of what sort of a bass would go for that sort of money. So he's wasting his time.
Of course you're right - but this is eBay, and the normal rules of common sense don't always apply. And some people have more money than sense.
 6.
Tried them all have you mate? Talk about hype. Some people
I believe he is simply summarising the general argument that is made for vintage basses and guitars: old ones are good and new ones are not. I can't see what else drives the prices of vintage guitars. It can't be rarity - these were factory-built, mass produced consumer products. Not exactly Chippendale. Early Les Pauls might be an exception, but not Fender basses. Someone tell me I'm wrong.

I know where my money would go...
A lot of people's money is simply going where they feel it will bring them the best return. Shame really. These are just second hand guitars after all. You could always spend two grand on a brand new reissue like this one: http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/shop/flypage/product_id/11261 Why anybody would want to is beyond me.
 8.
Nice to see the prices being bumped up. There's a Jazz JV priced at over £2,000 on at the moment, and it isn't even an export model. Prices for these are all over the place right now. A red one fetched £900 on eBay in the summer - and it didn't even have the large Fender logo. I've been watching them all year, as I have one to sell myself, and judging the right time to offer it is really tricky. According to the specialist web site, only 200 Fender guitars and basses (all models) with the large logo were imported to the UK, which means under 20 of each type of Precision. The States didn't get any. So, the first-generation Precisions like the one in the ad are extremely rare by any standards. I have only seen one on eBay all this year, although there have been quite a few later model Squires. Bear in mind also that the pound is now tumbling against the euro whilst there seems to be a high demand for these from Italy (no idea why). Having said all that, I do agree with your assessment. Could be that the seller doesn't really need to sell and is just pushing the boat out. It would take a very brave man to put one on eBay at 99p just now.
 9.
Have you had bad experiences with 70's Fenders? If so what bass was it and what were the problens. I'd appreciate your views.
I've never had a 1970s Fender, good or bad. I'm sure some good products were made during that time, but it is well documented that CBS made a lot of money out of Fender during that decade by cutting quality and neglecting investment. The situation wasn't turned around until the early 1980s. That's why it surprises me that these guitars/basses are fetching a premium.
 10.
Jumped over £400 in the last 30 seconds. Maybe not such a bargain after all...
Went for £1,133. Not bad for an instrument built in a decade when Fender became a byword for cost-cutting and awful build quality. Has everyone forgotten about that, or what?

 14.
Don't you mean 20GB hard drives? if you're not careful someone might sue you for mis-representation the state things are in these days!!
Oops, yes - 20GB and tested. Thanks for the correction.
 15. I have 1 x Dell and 1 x E-machines computer I no longer need. They both have 700MHz Celerons and 20MB hard disks. One has 256 and the other has 520MB of memory, although I'm not sure which is which. They are compact mini-towers, the usual beige colour, and were in use until very recently. They are in very good condition but there are no monitors or keyboard. I've wiped the hard disks. If you want to connect your grandad to the internet or give your children their own PC, these are ideal. They are much lower power consumption than newer PCs. They will handle most applications but will not play the very latest games and they struggle with fast video content. You will need to collect from Dorchester. If there are no takers, they'll be on Freecycle next week.
 16. The Louis Bellson book is also supposed to be good for practicing rhythm reading. I'm about to start going through it myself. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/0769233...me=&seller= Question to the fluent readers on here: I've heard that mentally whispering the time to yourself as you go along is a bad idea - you should just see a bunch of notes and automatically recognize the pattern. What's your view on this?
 17. I really would be very wary about spending all that money reconing these drivers when you could buy something new and more modern from Fane or Celestion for less.
 18.
Lovely bass! Being such an early model and in such good condition, that's got to be one to keep i would have thought?
'Fraid not. My dentist and my wife say I have to sell it and it will be on the For Sale board shortly. I thought I would post some pics here for posterity. I'll post a few more soon.
 19. Here are some pics of my 1982 JV Precision. It's a JV02 serial, which puts in in the first month's production.
 20.
Got some info from company that made the speakers. The covers are epoxied to the speakers so there is not way to remove them without destruction.
I've done a 10" and a 15" and had no problems removing and replacing the grilles. So it can be done with some care, although I might have been lucky. Both items are now with two different Basschatters, who I am sure will confirm that they look and work fine. What I'm saying is that the information you have been given is not quite accurate and you shouldn't give up. You should be able to re-glue the first surround if it's just a small rip. I'd carry on doing the others to see what the overall damage is and how many drivers you will have to recone/replace. The only other drivers I know with that shape are the Volt cast chassis ones - and they might not be exactly the same size. They are pretty pricy though. How much do Tayden want for a recone? I notice those plastic handles have broken in the usual place.
 21.
Might mean i need an update for Adobe...
I can recommend Foxit Reader as a much leaner and faster alternative.

 23.
Hey y'all! Does anyone know where I can find charts for some Chic lines? Le Freak's the main one, but I've got a lot to learn and a short time to learn 'em in, so any help/hints/transcripts will earn you a BC Beer Token to be redeemed at any of my gigs!
Try this. I've no idea how good it is - it's not mine. Looks OK though.
 24.
Either 'big but light' or get a new amp as well as new cabs. My suggestions: SMX250 into The Vintage SMX250 into The Compact x2 Hartke LH500 into The Compact Markbass LMII into The Compact The Vintage is a BIG cab so if you have a bad back I'd be wary of it - it's light for its side but it's not much lighter than your 1x15" and it's quite a lot more cumbersome. If one of The Compacts sounds great to you but just doesn't go loud enough then try it with a more powerful head and if you can't find a more powerful head that you like the sound of then add a second cab. I've seen the LH500 for about £200 so for your budget you could have a pretty awesome rig, ignoring what you get back from selling your current (rather nice despite the weight) gear. Alex
Anyone else see the similarity of this and spam?
