1. That isn't creativity. That is teaching you how to use the tools and make your job easier.
2. I've heard they've got that Joey Jordison, that basketball bloke you know. lololoolol spacejam etc.
3. I was f***ing waiting for that.
4. I either man up or use superglue. Always got some form of cut on my hands/ fingers one way or another, when I first started learning proper knife technique in the kitchen I had a monstrous amount. Just doesn't phase me any more. Apparently if you piss on your hands the ammonia forms callous. Some baseball players do it.
5. I think it's a combination. You can't teach creativity, which is what music is all about (for me anyway). Yeah it's cool to play other peoples compositions and see what they've done but ultimately making music is the best thing about it. And that is purely down to experience. I know brilliant classically trained musicians who cannot play unless they've got a sheet of music to read, no improvisational skills at all. Don't get me wrong they can play amazingly off a sheet of music but it's the creativity they're lacking. To learn the tools? All of the above combined. And you can't take them too seriously, one mans wrong could be the next inspirational masterpiece. No one teaching method works well for everyone, especially where the arts are concerned. I could go off on a rant about how standardisation in the educational system is ruining the entire idea of it but I've just been for a 15 mile walk and I really cannot be arse.
6.
Is this how we treat people on here? Tell them to f*** off because they are impressed with someone? Joey's a very talented multi-instrumentalist as it happens. I have seen him on bass before and although he's not Anthony Jackson, he plays with great feel and spirit. So on behalf of some of the other members on this thread, sorry to the OP if you got the impression we are all c**ts.
Pity he's a sh*t drummer then...
7. Must resist urge to call Joey Jordison a talentless twat who can't groove and barely keep a beat. Oh wait, think I just did.
8. I'm another one who favours hand tools over all, cheaper and more reliable. I've been practising with the surform and spokeshave as I plan to hand carve my next bass. Provided you have a quality chisel and know how to sharpen it properly it's much easier IMO than fannying about with templates. To whoever said a router was the most dangerous power tool about, I raise you an angle grinder. I had a really lucky escape, I was helping a mate with his block paving and about half the time I wore trainers, luckily the day it jumped back I'd put my steelies on and saved chopping my foot in half, just. I've now upgraded to steelies and a set of safety glasses.
9. I give the neck a bit of a push and then measure the relief again.
10. Nope, although I don't like the look of a lot of basses. Which wouldn't matter if they were cheap basses, but if I'm paying a lot of money it'll be a combination or looks, sound and playability I'm after.
11. I had a similar problem with my badass II. I managed to just about grasp most of the screws with a set of pliers, but in the end I had to drill out the top on of the E string saddle. Bridge screws are deceptively hard to drill through, went through a couple of quality bits and had a lot of swearing.
12. Nothing, I cut up and old bank card. And I still have a 1mm pick someone gave me 7 years ago. I hate using a pick though.
13. Yeah you'd need to connect all the foil together and connect it to a ground. +1 for copper foil, and even though is has conductive glue, solder it anyway incase the glue dries out. Take your time and make a neat job of it
14. I used metal polish myself, the tcut stuff, luckily mine wasn't too far gone. My god does it leave a smell on your hands though, and give you a monster headache. If it was really f***ed i'd use wet/dry sanding up to a high grade to get a mirror finish on it.
15. My jap ones are fixed units, like the peg was fixed to the plate by two bands which went through the plate, I couldn't see any way to remove the pegs and turn them round when I had them off for polishing.
16.
Was he not playing with his usual all girl backing??
Probably wrecked them in bed so hard they couldn't stand.
17. Maybe classically trained musicians, not trained in the art of rocking?
18. The only way you're gonna get that bass un gothy is by painting flowers and peach symbols on it. Which I highly advise.
19. They allow you to travel through time, when you hit 88bpm you're gonna see some serious sh*t.
20. Not scared at all I've got this "give me an instrument and i'll get a tune out of it" attitude, love playing all kinds of stuff. Anyway, not tried a fretless, not had a chance. Would love to though, debating a squier VM fretless as my next bass, although at the same time i'm debating a stagg EUB...
21. I can sight read basic things, and play and sing in time if the line isn't too complicated. It's difficult though, second or third vocals is more my bag if I must sing.
22. I wouldn't play it out of principal now, if it comes to you being asked.
23.
Must resist the temptation to put Lord down as my title... Must resist...
Always satisfying getting my nectar card statement through. I tried for Padowan but settled for Reverend.
