  1. I'm not a fan of slap bass on the whole, except when Larry and Louis (Johnson) are the ones doing it. They lay it all down with such huge gravity, rhythm, guts and groove to a degree that I don't think anyone subsequently has got anywhere near (for me). I'd term it the purest and best distillation of the form and way superior to the 'refined' machine gun style it became.
  2. You are a gentleman and a scholar. Thank you so much!
  3. Evening all, I've recently acquired the aforementioned amp (After years of wanting one!) and it's truely stunning in every respect. The quality of tone FAR surpasses any other amp I've used to an almost laughable degree. I've began recording with it using the D.I (and beautiful the D.I tone is too) and have noticed a strange quirk in that the output level of the D.I seems to be linked to the actual output level of the master volume? This means that I have to attach a cab and crank the volume to get a decent level through my audio interface, which as you can probably guess, isn't good for my poor neighbours. Anyone know if this amp can be used without a speaker load attached? The fact is a hybrid tube head seems to muddy the waters on this. Many thanks in advance!
  4. Although I have a Modulus Flea, my favourite Flea tone is the Spector NS2 JJ from Uplift Mofo!
  5. I'm sorry, horses for courses and all that, but this is utterly souless and flat for me.
  6. Withdrawn. My bout of madness has finished! It's being kept!
  7. Bought a Mesa Boogie M-Pulse from Steve a few weeks back. Had some minor unforseen issues with the amp itself which are now resolved but Steve dealt with it in a truly exemplary manner and is a credit to the the community. A thoroughly pleasant and cracking bloke. Deal with complete confidence. Many thanks Steve!
  8. Reduced to £2350. Will pull the advert on Monday if no takers and keep it!
  9. Jay Kay and his cringeworthy faux-American accent.
  10. Bump. Thinking of pulling this shortly. Starting to feel I might be being a bit insane and/or stupid to sell such a wonderous instrument.
  11. Rush! Not a huge fan of the earlier 70's output, but love the relatively commercial sound from Power Windows onwards.
  12. Paul Carrack has got a hell of a set of pipes on him.
  13. That sure looks like Mick Karn from Japan. Head Bob - ✅ Wal- ✅ Have I got this wrong?
  14. Already been eyeing up some Chromes!!😅
  15. Thanks for the lovely comments guys! Fiesta Red is probably my all time favourite colour for a bass, it never seems to photograph right though and it wasn't until I physically saw it in person (last year, ironically on a roadworn P) that I understood what a great colour it is, having the nicest orangey, pinkish red, warmth to its hue. Does this particular range have a period correct pickup? I'm amazed by its ability to have an inherent 'thickness' to the sound that never descends into mud. I'm utterly converted and should have done this a lot sooner! All from a humble P.
  16. FWIW, I played an Ashdown ABM through an Ampeg SVT 4x10 during a recording session some years ago. The tone was pure Ampeg. I'd be inclined to say the cabinets are the source of the 'sound' on this basis.
  17. That's what hooked me onto the tone of these things. It's unholy!
  18. Having started out on a 1985 E-Series Squier P-Bass back in 2003 I thought it was about time to play a P-Bass again after a near 20 year hiatus from owning one. Prompted by my starting up of a Motown band, I put a wanted ad out on these hallowed pages which turned up this beauty, a 2017 Mexican 50's Classic Series in Fiesta Red. Not much that can be said that hasn't already about P-Basses but some interesting observations considering I've very much been a 'modern' bass type player all these years, purposefully shunning P's just because they are so ubiquitous. The sheer authority and presence of the tone just doesn't fail to bring a smile to my face, it's the first time I've grinned from ear to ear playing a bass in quite some time. In comparison to every other bass I've owned, it's so much more 'there' all the way up the neck and on each string. The strength and clarity of the midrange just makes it absolutely sing. The tone control also has the widest range of usable differences I think I've ever used on a bass. The neck, allegedly has a reputation as a baseball bat but I find it supremely comfortable to play and have no issues with getting around it quickly Fit and finish are superb. I know Mexico have been on the up for many years,, but this is great even by the improved standards. The body is super resonant and you can feel it purring away while you play! Colour me very, very impressed.
  19. Virtual Insanity by Jamiroquai. Still the benchmark. https://youtu.be/4JkIs37a2JE
  20. Updated to try and take pics that represent the colour better. It's a really vibrant and darker blue and my camera is washing it out. Edit - taken some new pics that are more accurate to the colour in the flesh.
  21. Couldn't agree more. The obvious example of this is the yearly cycle of mobile phone releases that millions sign up to. Never mind the fact there hasn't been any meaningful advance in what a phone can actually do in about 5-10 years. It's just a slightly better camera and more useless gimmicks. This extends to so many differing products in our daily lives.
