1.
OK, lets look at the Piano. There are essentially two types. An upright and a grand.
My baby grand is feeling hurt that he's been left out.....
 2.
To solve the switching off issue, take the battery cover off, it's the little rubber 'poker' thing that sometimes misses the little button thing. Stick a rubber foot on the end of it or something to widen the footprint so it doesn't miss the little button thing. !!
It's more annoying than that, it has a hold function as well, so sometimes when you try to turn it off, it holds instead. Bypass box is good, plus it saves tap dancing when am running it at an octaver as well.
 3.
Odd isn't it? Nobody bats an eyelid about pianos, trumpets, violins, acoustic guitars etc all looking the same... but the second you slap some paint on your instrument and put some primative electronics in it, the world is up in arms... It's almost as ridiculous as claiming the 3+1 machinehead headstock design...
This. Only Just occurred to me. You are right. Antonio De Torres should sue everyone....
 4. real life has thrown a spanner at me, learning stuff for a bunch of dep gigs to make money.... Probably nothing this month or next...
 5.
Listened to the first track this morning and it really cheered me up. Congratulations to whichever member of your talented team wrote the lyrics.........and they actually rhyme.......OI!
Took ages to decide between that and hey.....
 6.
+1 for the BSY600! Just got myself a Behringer BSY600 synthesizer pedal! Still playing but seems great for the money!
I also have one of these, it does wobs. Quite well. Only real problem I have had with it is the switch often doesn't want to turn off, so I use a bypass looper to flick the whole chain off, problem solved. If you have tracking problems, stick a boost or a fuzz in front of it, and it behaves itself a lot better. As for the expression pedal, it would be useful, but a quick tweak with your hand will get the speed you want if you're skint, like me.
 7. Maybe we need a subscription only area of the forum for selling rickenfakers, unable to be viewed by anyone who doesn't pay a very high premium, and very noticeable and worded correctly. Then the Rickenwaffen could fund basschat by having to subscribe to it, and we could find another way round the problem later.
 8. My EUB into an Eden amp and Di-ed straight out the back as far as I know. Joe has a load of valvey compressory real things and plugins that he sticks on everything. It makes stuff sound nice. Come to Devon Tom... record us.....
 9.
Just listened to Cage A Lion. What a gorgeous bass sound! And a great song. Nice one If you want opinions on the mix... I would have a little more low end in the kick drum, The BVs could be wider - not sure if they're doubled? But I would have doubled them and panned them wide. Other than that very, very nice.
Cheers Tom, the kick sound was actually my work-around for the extreme bassiness of the bass sound, we were in a bit of a hurry, so I pretty much ordered Joe (the engineer) to dial out the low in the kick and add it to the bass. BVs weren't doubles, again, cos we were in a hurry. And yeah, when we get to the proper album recordings we'll hopefully be double-tracking them. And thanks Pinball, we might be playing in Bath for 15 minutes in April, will keep you all posted.
 10.
Wouldnt the 'chav Fender' be the poorly made chinese copy with the huge logo?
Insert 70s fender jokes here.....
 11. That looks ridiculously useful. Thanks mushers, I have need of that later. Though given the ridiculously complicated intro I have been sent to work out, it might have as much trouble as I am finding any notes, let alone chords.....
 12.
Oof, never again! Out of necessity I once bought Sainsbury's 'Yeast Extract' and had to get it out of the bloody jar with a knife! Once you've used Marmite's convenient squeezy plastic sphincter there's no going back!
The squeezy thing is wrong, you just need a jar, with marmite in. And a knife, all the rest is just custom shop madness..... As to fender, the people who complain that fender only ever come out with the same tired old designs, and the people who scream "But it doesn't look fendery!?!?" when they do, are not the same people. In case you thought they were.
 13. I use the foam from the bottom of the silver camera box thingy that I keep the head in. it also keeps the amp happy inside the box. Works a treat.
 14. Bugger, didn't realise I was so out of practice, just spent last night running through some songs for a dep gig next month, and now have massive blister on my left little finger, can't play anything without screaming every 5 seconds. Maybe I should just put a mic in the room when I'm practicing on the upright, should sound pretty angry......
 15. Finally stopped just using my guitar board for bass, and made this from an old shelf and some jaffa tape. Relatively simple but awesome.
 16. I got some jaffa tape and velcro off Gav last week, super cheap, super good, super good chap, cheers mate!
 17. Bought a pedal off Rich last week, perfect transaction, quick postage, horrifically honest description. Great guy to deal with.
 18.
I have a similar problem with the Vintage brand name.
Ruined ebay searches forever that did....
But is that a genuine Dave bass......
No, technically it is a Hondo/wizard/gotoh/ebaynonameneck but that wouldn't fit....
 19.
I put a Fender decal on my beater Brandoni kit Jazz simply to stop idiot punters and halfwit guitards telling me I should get a 'real' Fender.
This was a large part of my reasoning as well.
Like Mark D Philips did with his "Knopfler" special?
Nothing like as professional as Mr Phillips fine bodgery. I only used 1 pen, and I was very pissed when I did it. Also my handwriting is shocking at the best of times. Like this....
 20.
My bass has nothing on the headstock. I get a lot more questions asked about it over the Fender's everyone else are playing.
Mine did for years, I got sick of the questions and stuck a fender decal on it. Now I only very occasionally get the odd ubergeek coming up to me after gigs and saying "you know that's not a real fender don't you?" to which i say yes. And sometimes give them a round of applause. My other precision has Dave scrawled on the headstock in black marker. Never sure which I prefer to be honest, i did the fender faking ages ago to see if I could. Never selling that bass anyhow, had it for 20 odd years, and still my main gigging bass.
 21. Thanks BOTB. That's the plan
 22. Ok, so I have once again found myself doing the website for this band, the management are happy to pay out for the service, so I would rather do one of these easy build jobs than write the thing from scratch like I normally would. My question is this, I've been trying the bandzoogle site for a day or two (free trial) and it seems like a fairly annoying interface. Is wordpress better? has anyone used both to make the comparison? Would we be making a serious mistake to go for the full version of bandzoogle? (it does have a really stupid name) All help gratefully received.
 23. Pretty sure I read somewhere that Jaco's original defret was a total pigs arse of a job, and it did get redone by a luthier later on. the same guy who rebuilt the bass of doom after Jaco killed it. Like many great musicians, he enjoyed lying about stuff in interviews though. Plus 2 to the musicians who are not bothered by shiny gear, but just want to play music, and once they find something they like playing, why change it, easier to keep playing on something you're used to.
 24.
The Owl - Rodley (outskirts of Leeds) £3.10 a pint - thieving ***** - so it was sh*t for that reason and I'll never go back.
You Northerners don't know how good you've got it...
 25. Cheers Lurksalot, and the endless mixing process on the demo was cut short by me saying "for f&^%s sake, it's only a demo, we'll worry about it when we record the album proper in the summer". Which saved everyone a lot of time. Wait til we put out the 3rd track, that's different again....
