SOLD

My Peavey BXP Cirrus 5 (bubinga top) bought a few months ago in order to learn to play 5-string basses is very sadly up for sale due to me being a public sector worker now facing redundancy – but it’s OK as I’m hugely reassured by multi-millionaires Dave and George saying we’re all in this together. Now equipped with brand new D'addario strings and professionally set up done by Bolton Luthier Phil Hartley, the bass is in “as new” condition having been used a few times at home for practice purposes only. I’m looking for around £300 for this immaculate instrument. I have initially shown a general photo but will be more than happy to supply any pictures you may require. I’ve a decent camera and can hopefully show prospective buyers some good detail. The eagled eyed amongst you will notice that the strings in the picture are not D'addarios! This is because I took some pictures before the bass went to the luthiers (just in case). (I am sadly and very reluctantly selling my Rickenbacker 4003 too, please see my other listing if you are interested). I would prefer collection only as I've had bad courier experiences in the past. I’m happy to travel a reasonable to distance to exchange the item for cash or further afield with modest re-imbursement of my fuel costs.

This bass is reluctantly, and very sadly, up for sale due to me being in a public sector worker now facing redundancy – but it’s OK as I’m hugely reassured by multi-millionaires Dave and George saying we’re all in this together. (I’ve a Peavey BPX Cirrus 5 up for sale too, please see my other post if you are interested.) The Rick is in great condition having been very well looked after and used for practice only in a smoke free home. I have initially shown only a few photos but will be more than happy to supply any pictures you may require. I’ve a decent camera and can hopefully show prospective buyers some good detail. Looking around at prices, I believe that £1,350 would be a fair price for this beautiful guitar. I put on a brand new set of Rickenbacker Nickel strings two months ago. There is one very small scratch on the rear and a tiny chip in the black paintwork, hopefully shown in the picture. The bass is serial number 0626117 (June/July 2006) and has always been transported in its RIC hard case. The case is in good condition but there is a crack around one foot that I have repaired and a smaller one at the other end (see pictures). All the catches work perfectly but the key for the lock has sadly gone missing. The original unused cleaning cloth is included. Due to the value of the item I would prefer collection only. I’m happy to travel a reasonable to distance to exchange the item for cash or further afield with modest re-imbursement of my fuel costs. I'm based in Lancashire. 5. Mike bought some pickups from me. Excellent guy, quick payment and great communications. Happy to trade with him at any time. Alain
6. Anybody want to make me an offer? (please!)
7. Does all this mean that my trusty Legend 4 with 3-band EQ is now a poor relation?
8. Hi all These are from the bass that I recently upgraded so hopefully some use for a self build project and are in very good condition. If you would like any pics please let me know. They are on evilbay too: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...=STRK:MESELX:IT

10. This Charming Man and Saw Her Standing There. Plus working on a prog bass part for a friend's bassistless project...
11. We have just had out PAT testing done by: http://www.pattestingman.co.uk/ 01706 829000 We are based in Chorley (Lancs) and I can highly recommend this guy who was punctual, and at £23 for the band (2 guitars, bass, PA and some lighting) was very reasonable I think.
12. Just had our band PAT tested. We used the services of: http://www.pattestingman.co.uk/ 01706 829000 I should say we are based in the Chorley (Lancashire) area. This guy was excellent. Punctual, and at £23 for the band (2 guitars, bass, PA system and a bit of lighting) very reasonable I thought.
13. Here's a pic
14. It's done and was tested at practice tonight. What a difference! A new Wilkinson type bridge, SD vintage style PJ pups, rewired to VVT (was VBT), new jack socket and some new flat wound D'Addario strings. Will post some pics shortly
15. I've just had a set up done on my 5-string by Phil Hartley as well as some upgrades on a fretless base, and I think he has done some excellent work and would recommend him to anybody looking for this type of service in the North West. The set-up cost £40 so not too bad price wise as it included some work on the nut and he also replaced some washers on the tuners. Very thorough. http://www.guitarsetup.co.uk/contact.php I have also used the very excellent Steve Robinson in the past. Phil is much closer to home for though! 16. I've always liked David Bowie's Wild is the Wind
17. What about the Roger Waters P Bass - comes with a free guitarist I believe (I suspect that somebody has probably done that joke already though) Failing that the Chris Squire Ric (or is it Rick?) for me as a 4003 Jetglo user/abuser
18. I used the contact us button on the Tanglewood website this week to enquire as to the progress of the project and received the following (having removed a bit of personal info) I can assure you your anticipation is certainly matched here at Tanglewood. Last month Chris personally flew to Asia and signed off every part of the manufacturing project. He fully approved the first delivery of these fabulous instruments which were in the finishing stages of production when he got there. We are now in the hands of freight forwarders ! There is no possibilty of a pre Xmas delivery into shops, but we anticipate mid January, so not long to go ! We liken them to a fine wine..they've taken a while to produce but the wait will certainly be worth it ! Thank you so much for your enthusiasm, kind words and patience ! I've copied Chris May personally in on your mail, he'll be pleased his painstaking efforts on this project are appreciated ! Regards Sharon Hunt Company Secretary Tanglewood Guitars Sounds promising I think; now looking forward to some trying out in the new year. I've asked for some pics and will post if I receive anything.
19.
I found markers helpful when I started. Also, the cheaper end fretlesses do tend to have them, as they're usually defretted (or unfretted?) versions of a standard bass. The advantage to me was that by using the markers as a reference, i could train my ear more easily. I could play blind and then check where my fingers really were.
That's the way I'm learning. I acquired a £90 RBX270F from evilbay (lined fingerboard) that is now being upgraded with some new pups, bridge and a rewire to VVT (from VBT). Never looked back
20. The lightest bass I have is my Yamaha RBX270F, positively waif-like.
21. I've been asked to supply some bass for a band a few hundred miles away and I'm in need of some help and assistance as I'm a complete beginner when it comes to recording stuff. I have a version of the song in mp3 format without the bass and given the distance it has been suggested that I record the bass part on a WAV file and post it on the web (the last bit I can do)! My question is this; I can play the file using Audacity, but can I record the WAV file at the same time and listen to the results in real time. Also what is the best way to get the bass into Audacity? Can I plug the output straight into my laptop, or do I need to get the signal from my DI box (or from the back of my amp), and do I need to convert it to digital format first - I've seen these cables with a mic style plug at one end and a USB at the other. Basically I'm Dazed and Confused. Please help me if you can
22. There's some good information on this website about spotting Ric fakes http://www.joeysbassnotes.com/
23.
...... that BGM should not be beyond criticism from people simply because those people aren't, can't, or won't provide a better alternative. All we are concerned with is QUALITY content and production.....
Agreed; with the proviso that quality means fit for purpose in the sense that a Rolls Royce is not a quality car for the average pensioner.
The magazine staff seem to care a lot, however the publishers in their f***ing fairy towers seem to be more concerned with the success of their horribly dull superstar w*** band, Swans in Flight.
Ouch! I quite enjoyed the CD, but I had better not disagree with the establishment twice in one thread
