There was only about 10 stands or so before but what a selection of 10 stands!, For those that have never been its not 10 stands selling Squier starter packs etc.
I think there were 16 stands last year at RNCM, depends what you call a 'stand' really. I can remember: Matamp, TC electronics,EBS, ACG, Bernie Goodfellow, Markbass, Hartke, Rotosound, two or more bass dealer stands, a guy with a huge table of equiupment(Bass Gear?) , a guy with huge table of strings (at fantastic prices) some guy doing a double bass stand, bass guitar magazine (did Yamaha, and Shuker have a stand too ? PMT, Dawsons ?) I must have missed several out.
'Magnificent 7' by the Clash from the Sandanista album. Simple, but oh so effective.
brilliant bass line yes. I mixed it up with Radio Clash for a second there in my head, thats a real great one to 'zone out' to as well though. on that one I like to strum the pick pick hard and fast on the E on the last seven notes of every fourth bar, as opposed to D and E .(cant do it with fingers, has to be a pick, same as Paul Simenon) Edit: Just found out The magnificent 7 was played by Norman Watt-Roy!!,

You may think im joking but im serious, i have seen two very good bands with drum machines and the human element was not missed.

tickets for bassday are now £27 on the door. How come its £7 more ? It should be £7 less surely. Last year we had 3 main guests players with 4 or five extra workshops/lectures as well ?
I often use my Zoom! drum machine when I'm practising. It's very easy to use and sounds good. I've used it for rehearsals too when the drummer has been unavailable. In those situations I'll use just program a pattern and let it run and we'll improvise over it.
+1 for a zoom. I have a B2.1u which I just got last week from a fellow basschatter, and its brilliant. Lots of effects (some editable) and a pedal and a tuner and a drum machine. Also its solid metal, not placcy. edit: I have just given it another early morning whirl at 8:20 am . I think some of the schoolkids walking to their daily grind, were entertained as i vamped on the Alice Cooper track. Schools out, over a basic drum track. Just realized it was the wrong time of day for that tune though, DOH! ( not that any of them would have recognized it)
Don't shoot the messenger guys. I am just repeating what Stevie said on Thursday night and told me "You are the first person who knows the changes". He said the website would be updated this week-end. I am with Doddy on this one, the artists are more important than the gear for me. The London show was all about Equipment, Manchester always used to be about players. Last year did nothing for me other than Dave Marks session. Victor Bailey was obviously pretty ill, Stu Hamm was quite funny but Billy Sheehan bored me senseless. The last year at Life Cafe we had Joseph Patrick Moore, Alvin Mills, Lucy Shaw, Janek Gwizdala, Yossi Fine, Yolanda Charles and band, Adam Nitti, Wojtek Pilichowski, Jonas Hellborg and Stefan Redtenbacer with his band. It was awesome. Funnily enough Band on The Wall was used on the Monday night after BassDay 2009. It had just re-opened after a massive re-furbishment and there was a post-BassDay gig with Adam Nitti, Pookie Bell and his band.... At the end of the day, if you don't want to go. Don't.
No mesennger shooting here either, i hope i never gave that impression ? Im glad you let people know what was going on and the new date. so many thanks As for someone mentioning that Manchester was more about the players and the London show was the one about the gear. I enjoyed both elemets at last years manchester show and was impressed by the venue too. Two stages and lots of space for kit and plenty of space to wander about outside in the uni gardens if the low end buzz was giving you a head funk, as some said it did. I cant afford to go to London fo a show. Its too damn expensive to get there and get accomadation. London show is great if you live in greater London or have pals living there to put you up. For me unfortunately the Manchester show was the only thing i went to last year and it will be this year too. Band on the wall is fine but its not a tardis, its just too small, unless i have remembered it wrong? I'll be made up if someone tells me that they have had an extension put on or something ? As for not wanting to go. Thats just the point i really do want to go. It was not hyperbole when i said i have been looking forward to this event since last years ended. The fact that i couldnt make the london show only made it worse. If petrol was american prices I'd have driven down the 200 miles and kipped in the car (hey ive done it before im not ashamed of it) I have only been playing now for 20 months so am still on a learning curve and try to asimilate as much knowlege re bass kit and players that I possibly can. I will go wherever its held, but am afraid if this years show feels like a last minute scramble it will feel like a step backwards.
Depending on the species they can get very big and need a lot of room. And yes, they eat a lot too. Another thing about them that people don't realise is that they bloody stink! If you're keeping them indoors you need very, very good filtration and you need to keep on top of it else it will block up, often, and it only takes a short while before the water turns to muck. There's a liquid that you can buy that helps to neutralise the smell. If you keep them in a pond you can't keep anything else in there with them, they will eat everything. If you keep them in a tank there's not a lot you can do to make it look pretty, they destroy everything. I have gravel, heavy rocks and a large piece of driftwood in with mine, all things that they can't move or wreck. Some Zoos will take them in, I remember seeing one place that had hundreds of them in a lake. All of them had been abandoned by people that thought they would make good pets. You can see a couple of photos of my Terrapins here: http://www.myspace.com/my/photos/album/1953041 There's Mud Pie (the big one), Worf (the spiky one) and Knobneck. So, before considering taking them on, take what I've said into account. If you think you're up to taking them on then they can make great pets, I love mine to bits. They each have their own personalities and they're fascinating to watch.
Id llove to see pics of your terrapins, but that link just takes me to my own pics? Im asumiung it would take me to the myspace front page if i didnt have a account there?
Nice idea, shame about reality. It's previous location was excellent and easily accessed, the new location is not as good for getting to plus I doubt it'll be as well known. Also, having a smaller capacity will make the event seem like it has gone backwards and not evolved - who wants to go to an event where there is guaranteed to be less than the year before ? I'd imagine the price of the tickets doesn't go down to reflect that. I think it's been left too late in the year to be changed and publicised.
'fraid i have to agree. Why on earth is it being moved? Just to get Marcus Miller as a guest ? Big deal! I thought that the idea of a bassday, is surely about the equipment not the guests. Guest players are nice but secondary.
I have a copy of Californication pre-mastering, and it sounds absolutely lovely - especially the kit - often been tempted to do my own far more sympathetic mastering on it.....
I have that same item. With the sounds put through a quality hi-fi it is very obvious. But even on my computer speakers the difference is there to hear. Turn me up
Off topic a bit but maybe shops should invest in a few of these strectchy guitar/bass body covers (Axe Jackets??) - that way, it allows the potential purchaser to handle the bass and provide the shop with a little more confidence?
I have never heard of these and can find no googlinfo on it. Do you have any pics of these guitar condoms ?
are wunjo still trying to pass off a squier bronco bass with a broken & crudely glued musicmaster neck as an original '71 musicmaster like they were last time I was in there?
What is it with Wunjo ? I hear some on here saying they are now the only decent place in Tin pan alley. Others have them as bad as the others ? I have never been there so cant really comment.
you work in Denmark Street and I claim my £5.00!
My dad 'claimed' £5 off Chalky White on Rhyl promenade in 1972.
These are £45 new + p&p. To you, £35 on your doorstep. This is in mint condition. It has interviews with many of the band including Scott Thunes. Number 152 of 400 individually numbered copies. Publication date: 16th August 2010 Deluxe edition: Limited edition hardback with slipcase, individually numbered and signed by the author. In 1988, Frank Zappa toured with a twelve-piece band that had rehearsed for months, learned a repertoire of over 100 songs and played an entirely different set each night. It is why, in Zappa's own words, it was "the best band you never heard in your life" - a reference to West Coast American audiences who never got the chance to see this particular touring ensemble due to the disharmony between Zappa's "clonemeister" Scott Thunes and nine of the other band members. 'Zappa The Hard Way' documents that last tour, which deteriorated as the tour progressed through America and on to Europe. If you think touring can be fun, think again! Yes there were groupies and the usual paraphernalia associated with rock 'n' roll, but there was also bitterness and skulduggery on a scale that no one could imagine. Author Andrew Greenaway has interviewed the surviving band members and others associated with the tour to unravel the goings on behind the scenes that drove Zappa to call a halt to proceedings, despite the huge personal financial losses. 'Zappa The Hard Way' might just be the best book you've never read in your life! Format: Hardback (234 x 156 mm) in slipcase Pages 224 text, 32 colour plates (74 images) • Foreword by Frank Zappa’s sister, Patrice "Candy" Zappa-Porter. • Personally signed by the author. • Previously unpublished photos from the rehearsals, the studio, and other off stage shots by Lynn Goldsmith, official FZ photographer for the ‘Baby Snakes’, ‘Sheik Yerbouti’ and ‘Broadway The Hard Way’ releases. Also includes many live shots from the tour. • Full 1988 discography and set lists. • Hardback. • Wibalin slipcase, foil stamped in silver.
