Have a look at GUS Guitars. Simon Farmer makes a cedar laminate body and neck with a carbon fibre exo-skeleton. If it's good enough for Prince then it should do for the rest of us

Richard bought a bbom 5 string bridge from me. So easy and great communication. Great guy

I bought this a couple of years ago (secondhand) and have never used it. It's been sitting on my pedal board collecting dust, so it's time to free up some space. They are over £250 plus postage new. Handmade in Germany Input switcher 3 x input gain, 3 x footswitch controls 2 outputs The Palmer TRINITY provides easy switching between guitars without unplugging and the associated noise. Three instruments can be connected, which are selected by footswitch and fed to the output. Each input has an adjustable booster providing up to 12dB gain (4:1), to balance instrument levels without changing the amp settings. In addition, the Trinity features a dedicated tuner output.

In a good way or not? Thankfully I'm GAS'ed out at the moment, so no desire to do anything (yet).

I'm not going to be any help at all because anything more than a string change and I take my basses to a luthier. It costs a fortune but I just can't trust myself to get it right without totally f'ing it up. If you manage it I might one day take the plunge and give it a go myself. I watch with interest to see how you get on

A Fender for me at last, a Dimension Standard V HH
6feet7 replied to Pinball's topic in Bass Guitars
I avoid anything with Fender or Squier on the headstock but I do like the look of these. I hadn't realised that they did them passive (my preference). I'm GAS free at the moment, but these will be on my radar (I like the fact that they are lightweight and not a P or J bass) when GAS strikes again (which it will probably sooner rather than later -
I had a 22 fret neck made by Keisel/Carvin in the USA. It was cheaper than I could get made for me in the UK (even after import duty etc).

Bought last year, fitted and then never used (except to tune the bass). I just don't use my double bass live, so rather than have £190.00 worth of pickup sitting here I think it should go to someone who might actually use it. Here's the blurb from the website: For Acoustic Upright Bass Does not require a pre-amp or other active, battery powered gear Produces a rich and powerful response that is acoustically true for both pizzicato and arco without adjusting controls The flexible element fits under the bridge foot picking up sound from both the bridge and top plate - Does not include 1/4" both ends cable Designed by Ned Steinberger in association with David Gage The Realist Upright Bass acoustic transducer was designed by Ned Steinberger in association with David Gage. A primary design goal was to create a transducer that would work equally well for pizzicato and arco through commonly used amplifiers, without requiring a pre-amp or other active, battery powered gear. A flexible element fits under the bridge foot so that it picks up sound from both the bridge and top plate. Produces a rich and powerful response that is acoustically true for both pizzicato and arco without adjusting controls. No preamp necessary. Easy installation. Just plug it in.

Let us know how you get on with it as I too have a thing about Thunderbirds, but the reviews about their weight and unwieldiness have always put me off (plus finding a 5 string version that is affordable - though I have seen one on Reverb so would love to know what you think before I decide

Would like to try (Sussex) Godin Acoustibass fretless early models

Hi Jules, I sold mine a couple of years ago to a guy in Lewes - can't remember his name. He does the odd spot in the local pubs and plays it like an upright. If I remember I'll let you know. -
Simon Farmer at GUS Guitars. If they are good enough for Prince........

If you're ever in East Sussex pop in for a cuppa and a try of a 5 string upright

I converted to 5 string electric bass a few years back, so obviously sold my 4 string 3/4 upright bass and got a 5 string 3/4 upright. Managed to get a set of black nylons strings (that cost a fortune) and hardly ever touch the low B. Too damn difficult to play.

I only play 5's now (2 Patrick Eggles, 1 'converted' Epiphone Zenith and a 3/4 double bass). Only because it makes my life easier by playing pretty much everything between the 5th and 8th fret - very little moving around (which for someone who isn't the best player in the world is a godsend . As far as weight goes, my Eggles both only weigh about 8 1/2 lbs, so a 2 hour gig is easy on the shoulder.

Everyone does a 'more traditional' shape. This isn't exactly 'out there' in the design department but at least they've tried to not do yet another Fender clone.

Bassist required for just function/covers band, South East area
6feet7 replied to AJ777's topic in Bassists Wanted
I'm in Buxted near Uckfield - the band I'm in is a covers function band but we seem to be in a very quiet spot at the moment.
