    Exactly. Actually I could get one of these and have a new neck made/adapted and fit a new bridge and pickups (it wouldnt be perfect but then it's a travel bass, so it doesn't need to be custom shop spec

    I'm looking at converting a 5 string Steinberger/Hohner headless bass into a travel bass - where I can take the neck off so it all fits into hand luggage. I need to know where the truss rod ends at the body otherwise I can't do it. Does anyone have an idea where it starts/ends?

    Interesting that you have the P pickup the other way round. Does it make a difference?

    After having seen Scott's Bass Lessons video on why Pro's use a P bass I had to do something about it (I thought I was GAS free, but this was only a passing phase). I always swore I would never play a Fender ever again (partly because nearly every crap bass ever made looks like a Fender. Secondly I've never found one I gelled with (though the best sounding bass I ever had was a 1980's Tokai Hardpuncher P bass with a Nordstrand pickup) and thirdly, because I now play 5 stringers only, I couldn't find one that didn't give me a hernia every time I tried lifting one. Anyway, I was looking at the Bass Gallery's website and the most gorgeous looking bass just jumped out at me. A 5 string P/J bass made by AV Basses of the Czech Republic in the most wonderous bright, almost Lamborghini green, with Nordstrand pickups and only weighing 8.6lbs. After a quick email to see if they would take my two early 1990's Patrick Eggle Milan V basses as a part-ex I was on the train up to London and the deal was done. I now have the best of a P and and a J in something lightweight and eye catching. I couldn't be happier. Normally I have to customise the bass straight away, but all I've done with this beauty is add a thumb rest (not in the pictures) and put my favourite strings on (DR Sunbeams). It doesn't need customising as I'm sure there isn't another bass out there that looks like this one.

    EMG-40P5 and EMG-40J (their version of a P and J pickup) With wiring/preamp (see photos as I'm not too sure whats what and if bits of this need replacing) Removed from a bass I bought last year. From the website: The EMG 40P5 is our P bass pickup in an Extended range housing with the treble magnet closer to the neck (like a Spector or Yamaha bass). The EMG 40P5 covers a wide sonic palette of classic and modern bass sounds. Because this pickup utilizes ceramic magnets coupled with short, squat coils, the tone has brilliant high-end articulation, warmth, and incredible low end punch. Countless pros use this bass pickup because of its natural presence, superior dynamics, and low noise. For players who want a "Fender" P alignment - with the treble side closer to the bridge - we offer this pickup in "reverse". Utilizing EMG's solderless wiring, this pickup is easy to install at home.     I bought a bass last year and the seller had bought this case for the bass as the old one was knackered. I've never used it so it's pretty much as new.

    I've been watching this on Reverb (I've had three over the years - wonderful basses), but apart from the standard P neck, it's identical to the HMT Precision and there are a couple of those going (one in Germany and one in the USA) for more than £500 less.

    A quick follow up. Just had Simon at GUS remove the frets. This is going to be used as a backup for my double bass and it just wasn't sounding close enough (especially the piezo which picked up all the fret noises), so now the ebony neck has maple fret markers and sounds so much more lush.
