1. The SVT-450H is a B2RE closed in a big, wooden cab. Big, heavy, and not really overwhelming. SVT-410HLF is the cab I like the most, but it's a little awkward to move and it's full and pillowy lows are not always liked among bass players. I'd suggest PF500/800 with PF cab. OR SVT-3PRO with SVT-410HLF.

Hartke 3500

Only the poweramp is different in those two, not a big deal.
3. How is the bypass? I've read somewhere that gain and master controls still work in bypass mode. Have you compared it to a big Eden head? Some people claim it pretty much nails the tone, some say that it sounds really poor. I've played WT-500 and I'm in love. I'd like to have a part of Eden sound in my rig
4. Gt12ax7c iż a chinese shuguang and it is the fattest, fullest and best sounding 12ax7 tube I have heard so far. Gt12ax7r iż a sovtek 12ax7wa tube, the worst sounding tube I have heard so far. I really like ehx tubes in ampeg amps, I am not so much fond of JJ - too dry and sterile or Tung-sol reissue tubes - poor quality.
5. Well, you can easily make a perfectly fine PF500 or PF350 to cut out. Its just their internal safety system. I can make my PF350 cut out in my bedroom if I want, but I never had any problems on a gig, even with single cab, pushed really hard (red and orange leds blinking constantly). Maybe your amp IS fine?
6. I prefer mic to the cab. But then I have to go DI I prefer post EQ - I got 5 tubes not just fot their glow
7. Whoa! Looks amazing, sounds great! Great job Ashdown!
8.
As you can see, I've come under a little bit of criticism - apparently, everybody apart from beginners knows this stuff? In my experience, many many people certainly do not. Jim
You are right... but in my opinion you did not dig deep enough. If it has to be loud, the two "12 or even single modern "12 is more than enough - just like you wrote. But I tried GK 212, TC 212, TecAmp 212 (best out of those three IMO), and I get much better results with bigger stacks. With bigger stack you don't have to be loud to fill the room gently but with authority I always struggled with 210 (pure terrible!!!), single "15 or 212 (best out of those three options). Now I use 210 + 115 (and everybody says do not mix speaker sizes heh) and I can set the volume much lower than ever. The sound is finally balanced, finally there are no too loud, boomy or too quiet notes, finally I hear and feel the bass in whole room. It's not a matter of having speaker closer to ears, because I always prefer to stay away from my cab to hear whole band and the bass in a band context. To sum up - for the pure volume - yes, your article is 100% right. In real life there's always more than just a volume needed. Especially when you don't use your amp just as a personal monitor (why the hell should I buy nice amp and cab to use it JUST as a personal monitor? I can use Behringer amp for that!)
9. I like VT very much. It's the pedal of the future imho. But soundwise if you want Ampeg sound, Ampeg will do better.
10. I might try this. poppoing noise does not bother me, I like mechanical noises
11. The tonesuck made me sell my first Dunlopa 105q. When I bouth my second one I decided to get used to different sound. It still bugs me a little but I never found better sounding wah than this one. Glab is too hifi, Morley is pure terrible. I might want to try Xotic autowah, but I like to operate by myself...
12. I'd suggest looking for it. There are many great units out there, but if you want Ampeg, you should go for Ampeg. I have svp-pro, I had Sansamp vt. Sansamp is great, amazing...but really poor compared to real Ampeg.
13. Great combination, I use EBS VD with my Portaflex 350. I tried to get almost transparent sound and just a litle hair of overdrive from Ebs. Does the job done!
14. You might want to try Sansamp VT. It will retain your Ampegs character, but it will add more grit into it. The tone tont be much different, I use my VT with pf350 or svp-pro and Im pretty satisfied.

17.
Jeez the Boss pedal is an antique these days! I like a bit of retro and have an Atari 2600 with 100 games but seriously get a TC Polytune Thom
Just like P or J bass. Boss just does the job. And will be for another 20-30 years
As for Boss tuners, just because they're the standard, it doesn't make them the best. On their own product page it says they're accurate to +/- 1 cent.the polytune (in single string mode) is accurate to +/- 0.5 cent. A brief look at the prices on google shows them at about the same, it's a no-brainer to go for the more accurate tuner that has a polyphonic mode and true bypass over the one that has no benefits IMO.
As for accuracy... incredibly well trained human ear is unable to hear less than 5 cents difference. Average human ear starts to hear that something may be wrong from 10 cents. No way you can tell if the bass is 0,5 or 1 or even 3 cents out of tune unless you have super powers
18.
Hm, is a nice Squier of equivalent quality? I've heard some good things about Squier and while it'd be nice to have a Fender badge, if I can get a nice instrument that's also fairly inexpensive then I'd be happier
Squiers are very nice and well made, but I'd still go for a Fender. You always get what you pay for. No way you can get a "better fender for half of the price". You pay for the brand, OK, but the brand has to hold a certain level to be respected. Fender has the level, has the respect and has the quality and the sound. MiM Fenders are generaly superior to Squiers.(other than Japan Vintage series)

20. I recently sold my cab, but the 3pro is staying with me. I bought B200R from Jacob here, but I think I'm going to leave 3pro at home and eventualy buy SVT-410HLF back Maybe try a different amp, but without selling 3pro?
21. No worry to use 2pro / CL with 8ohm cab. I know it's not recommended, but I was at the festival where CL + SVT-410HE played for two days and nothing happened. Should be great with B-410HLF too!
