1. I seem to like MIM Jazz Basses better than US and Japan made ones. They are not that appealing but I like their slightly darker, more vintage timbre. I had two Mexican Standard jazz basses and liked them more than Highway One, Limited 94, US Standard 5 and Deluxe from mid nineties I tried.
2.
I fear that with that particular mic placement we're hearing the individual driver more than the cab.
Well... this is what you do in the studio or on the stage. How else would you put a microphone to record a bass cab? I would like to hear some ambient too, but close mic is the sound you hear in the studio recordings.
3. I never liked D112, I love good old trusty Shure SM57 for miking my bass cabinet. I play Ampeg, the amp IS the instrument (or a part of a instrument) and I choose it because I wanted THIS specific sound. I don't like it to be ruined by DIboxes.
4. None of those three will be better than PF-350. The sound will be different, sure, but do you want something different (and why) or better? If you want staight-up power amp pug into effects return of your amp. But you'll need something to control the volume
5. Great lightweight amps and cabs. I like them very much, even tho I'm all Ampeg
6.
Nice one, I just love the Ampeg sound, just wish I was able to carry their gear.
Hey, it's not bad! This amp weights 15lbs, Portaflex series are light too. If you need much power - check SVT-7 PRO, 15lbs too.
7. Hello Basschat! I can't decide between those two. I have them sitting in my pedalboard, both are super nice, both sounding different... Has anybody tried both of them and could share their impressions?
8. Got it few days ago, for a half price of new PF-350, retubed it today. This thing is very nice! Power is sufficient (150W @4ohm), sound is very round and full, but cleaner (opposed to my SVP-PRO preamp) Made in 1995, has two 12AX7 tubes inside. EQ looks simple, but every knob controls two frequencies (bass and treble in push-pull mode, working in conjunction with mid frequency) Ultra lo filter works way better than in PRO series SVP-PRO on the bottom of B1: Overall I'm very happy and I'm waiting for a gig!
9. Both SVT and PF 410 HLFs will go lower than 410HE. I had both SVT410HE and SVT410HLF and I strongly prefer 410HLF. I'd rather get one of the HFLs than 410HE.

Decisions...

Darklass has a humungous I mean REALLY HUMUNGOUS high end, way to much for me to even like it. Some people love it, me - not. Sansamp BDDI has weak mids (and also too much high end), from Tech21 I really liked VT Bass. I never tried MXR B.O., but you can always buy online and send it back.
11. I tried to love EBS Multicomp, but I never did. They both change the sound, LMB-3 adds highs, but scoops the mids, while EBS has a mid boost. Out of those two - i'd go with EBS.
12. This Jazz Bass is amazing! I still prefer uglier MiM Fenders, but those Squiers are top notch!
13. From 300 to 400, but you won't be able to hear the difference I'm not interested in numbers anymore, they are irrelevant. The power of amp or cab is either sufficient or insufficient.
14. The SVT-450H is a B2RE closed in a big, wooden cab. Big, heavy, and not really overwhelming. SVT-410HLF is the cab I like the most, but it's a little awkward to move and it's full and pillowy lows are not always liked among bass players. I'd suggest PF500/800 with PF cab. OR SVT-3PRO with SVT-410HLF.

Hartke 3500

Only the poweramp is different in those two, not a big deal.
16. U from Poland man?
17. How is the bypass? I've read somewhere that gain and master controls still work in bypass mode. Have you compared it to a big Eden head? Some people claim it pretty much nails the tone, some say that it sounds really poor. I've played WT-500 and I'm in love. I'd like to have a part of Eden sound in my rig
18. Up! Anyone?
19. Gt12ax7c iż a chinese shuguang and it is the fattest, fullest and best sounding 12ax7 tube I have heard so far. Gt12ax7r iż a sovtek 12ax7wa tube, the worst sounding tube I have heard so far. I really like ehx tubes in ampeg amps, I am not so much fond of JJ - too dry and sterile or Tung-sol reissue tubes - poor quality.
20. Well, you can easily make a perfectly fine PF500 or PF350 to cut out. Its just their internal safety system. I can make my PF350 cut out in my bedroom if I want, but I never had any problems on a gig, even with single cab, pushed really hard (red and orange leds blinking constantly). Maybe your amp IS fine?
21. I prefer mic to the cab. But then I have to go DI I prefer post EQ - I got 5 tubes not just fot their glow
22. Whoa! Looks amazing, sounds great! Great job Ashdown!
23.
As you can see, I've come under a little bit of criticism - apparently, everybody apart from beginners knows this stuff? In my experience, many many people certainly do not. Jim
You are right... but in my opinion you did not dig deep enough. If it has to be loud, the two "12 or even single modern "12 is more than enough - just like you wrote. But I tried GK 212, TC 212, TecAmp 212 (best out of those three IMO), and I get much better results with bigger stacks. With bigger stack you don't have to be loud to fill the room gently but with authority I always struggled with 210 (pure terrible!!!), single "15 or 212 (best out of those three options). Now I use 210 + 115 (and everybody says do not mix speaker sizes heh) and I can set the volume much lower than ever. The sound is finally balanced, finally there are no too loud, boomy or too quiet notes, finally I hear and feel the bass in whole room. It's not a matter of having speaker closer to ears, because I always prefer to stay away from my cab to hear whole band and the bass in a band context. To sum up - for the pure volume - yes, your article is 100% right. In real life there's always more than just a volume needed. Especially when you don't use your amp just as a personal monitor (why the hell should I buy nice amp and cab to use it JUST as a personal monitor? I can use Behringer amp for that!)
24. I like VT very much. It's the pedal of the future imho. But soundwise if you want Ampeg sound, Ampeg will do better.
25. I might try this. poppoing noise does not bother me, I like mechanical noises
