1. I once had a very drunk man come up to me halfway through a bass breakdown in my soul bands version of car wash, going "PLAY CAN'T TOUCH THIS" I did it and the whole audience cheered. But then again that was just drums and bass in the breakdown so it was more obvious. As long as I'm having fun I don't really mind if noone notices I'm playing the original basslines to the majority of the songs the soul band does.
 2. Seriously nice collection, what basses have been moved on and what do you still have?
 3.
Looking good, can you remove the head and use it separately?
Thanks, yeah it can be removed but it looks a hassle! has about 20 bolts securing it.
 4. My Corvette Nowhere near as good looking as spacecowboy's streamers but I like it
 5. Here's my NEW official gigging rig!!!!! All paid for by myself of course
 6. In my opinion... Worst: Bass Center - Advertising Hartke Amps even though according to a rep from Hartke UK, they have no stocking deals with them.. that might have changed now though... Best: Bass Merchant in Essex - Swift, friendly and professional service.
 7.
I'm interested in finding our more about this combo. Let me know how you get on!
Sure thing! Once I manage to acquire the funds for the amp, which should hopefully be in the next week, I'll post a Review! Pics and all.
 8. Has anyone mentioned walking on the moon by The Police? I love playing that song..
 9. Ha sorry for the misunderstanding then! I suppose i should've been more specific with the whole dark thing anyway. Playing in the dark is more of an ear training thing i suppose, (Similar to just not looking at the fretboard when playing), Getting the right intonation incase there's ever a lack of light at gigs and what-not.. then again my bass teacher's crazy (in a good way) so that's probably why he thought of the idea!! But yeah.. good practice schedules are the way to becoming a better bassist.
 10.
And the playing in the dark thing? He's having you on.
I was given the tips from my bass teacher, who played fretless exclusively for about 10 years of his gigging life.. I'm not posting to make fun of or offend anyone.. just to pass on whatever small bits of knowledge i have. Sorry for the mini rant, but i just want to help people James
 11.
It's not Pino... That's actually a good mate of mine called Andy Coughlan playing a Wal Fretless Pro 1.. He also has a couple of other very nice Wals in his kit bag as well, including one he calls 'Old Bluey' because it's a special one off light-blue colour. A fantastic player, these days Andy does a lot of double-bass work, but he still does a lot of gigs with his Wals, including Cerys Matthews amongst others.
didn't Pino play on the album that song's from though? Surely Numan would make sure the Welsh master of the low end could get on his live tour if he featured on the album they're touring just a thought! James
 12.
Geddy Lee on the R30 and Rush in Rio dvds... now that's growl!!
+100000000000 oh how i love rush
 13. Looks like a fretless Wal bass?
 14.
i can scan and post on here if you want?
Actually, i could just type the stuff down on here... Fretless Tips -Practice in pitch-black/blindfold whatever takes your fancy, as long as you can't see the fretboard -Practice Scales, use open strings to get an idea of an in-tune scale, then move on to full neck scales once the ear has developed. (.....i was rubbish with scales on fretless ) -Practice intervals - 8ves, 7ths, 6ths, 5ths, 4ths, 3rds, -Play it like a fretted bass. i.e - don't go sliding up and down to the notes because it's possible to do so. -Mess about/experiment with sound envelope by plucking with different intensity and in different positions. -It might say to play the fretless like a fretted, but mess about by taking full advantage of the lack of frets! Reccomended Listening Japan (Mick Carn on bass) - Oil on Canvas Paul Young - no parle Joni Mitchell (w/ Jaco pastorius): Hejira Mingus Shadows and Light - 'Dry cleaner from Des Moines' <- Stand out track Just a reminder, it's all stuff recommended by my bass teacher so i'm not to blame if any of it sounds a bit silly Hope this helps!! James
 15. i have the perfect sheet that might help you.. it's one that my bass teacher gave me when he gave me a lesson on fretless. It basically just gives tips on how to practice with it, and some recommended listening. i can scan and post on here if you want? James
 16. I've gone a completely different route now guys! Decided to go for a Hartke hm5410 combo... thanks to a handy loan of £300 to pay off the rest of the oncoming amp debts from the parents. I managed to raise the other £600 myself and i'm expected to pay off the £300 too so i'm more fortunate than spoilt if anything! Reviews and pics whenever i decide to place my order with bass merchant, which should hopefully be in the next week!! James
 17.
Streamer all day long... Corvettes just look silly
I beg your pardon?! I think my corvette looks beautiful! Even with the massive provocatively shaped horn! But tonewise, when I played a Streamer $$ I was left speechless. And I just love that spector shape. Get one! James
 18.
Victor Wooten's fingerstyle often has quite a growl, his foderas have a Jazz style bridge pup, which is probably the reason A jazz bass growl is a beautiful thing....for me.. Settings wise I usually have the neck pickup rolled off. On my 3 band eq practice amp, i've got bass on 6/10, mid on 6/10 and treble on 7 or 8/10, i also use a compressor aswell. strange settings i'm sure, but that's my interpretation of a growl However, it's a shame the wiring on my bass has basically said to me "yeah you can have that bridge pickup growl, you can also have some free feedback too!" ...damn my jazz bass
BY THE WAY, My bass is a MIM jazz as well, changed the pickups to seymour duncans, but i can remember those stock pickups giving off a good growl, you just need to find it is all haha.

 20. Was called in to play in my local high schools production of hairspray. 4 shows and a £25 voucher to prove my hard work! age restricted me from an expected £100 The shows were amazing though!!! bass part was reasonably hard but SO fun to play, didn't get tedious at all.
 21.
I didn't like the Hydrive 4x10. Sealed cab and lacking bottom. Dunno if there is a ported one too.
so should i maybe invest in the 'older' 410XL? or should i go with the Hydrive 115 cab? i'd rather go with the XL so i save a bit of money! thanks for the heads up, James
 22.
So you've officially given up on the Bass Centre? Tough break man I know the LH500 gets cracking reviews and is undeniably great value for money. My only gripe with it is it doesn't appear to have a speakon connector, but that's definitely more a minor niggle than anything else. Cant say much about the HyDrive Cab. But if it sounds like the XL series and is any lighter then your onto a winner.
Yeah man, gave up after i found out they had no dealing connections to hartke at all. i've been recommended the bass merchant by gareth from hartke uk though, so all's good! i've seen reviews for the lh500 too, sounds good based on reviews. Didn't realise there wasn't a speakon though, I could always get an adapter if it's desperately needed.. but it can't have been such an issue if i overlooked it that badly i'm fairly certain it was an XL cab i played through at the gig last night, really made my jazz bass growl! Hoping the hydrive 4x10 would do the same! thanks, James
 23. hey guys, my plans for getting a combo have kind of fallen through, even moreso after i played through a killer hartke 4x10 cab with the hartke ha3500 head at a gig last night. so, i might get the hydrive 4x10 and the lh500. anyone own any of these that could give me feedback? so many amp posts... any feedback would be much appreciated!! thanks, James
 24.
Indeed you are James, just beat you to it haha!
your quick.. very quick...
 25. sunset road by bela fleck and the flecktones. surprisingly unchallenging for a wooten bassline haha
